Slide 8
Key Learnings
Short term success in delivering food and employment.
 Long term issues
- Imbalance
Supply and demand with other crops
 Imbalance of soil nutrients
- Reduced biodiversity and therefore reduced ecosystem resilience
 Chemical residues
 Unsustainable water use
Reduced variation of varieties of cereals
- Chemical residues in produce
Need to take a holistic approach for stakeholders to jointly deliver long term sustainable agriculture
Slide 9
Holistic or Landscape Nature does not work in isolation
Key landscapes will be those that contain small holdersand current areas of subsistence agriculture
Inclusive of: the communitiesthat work and live in that landscape
other stake holders include Governments and commercial agricultural supply chains
A landscape is the lowest common denominator

Conclusion
Competition for resources will drive us to a cross roads
- A) confrontation and competition for production of different crops with little incentive for long term (future farming generations)sustainability of agriculture.
- Or B) co-operation with mutual benefit in achieving sustainable agriculture whilst providing farmers choice of activities reflecting market demand.
If there is a will, we already have the ability
