A MESSAGE FROM ADMINISTRATION

Dear Piney Orchard Elementary School Families,

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, we would like to let

every POES family know that they are appreciated. We treasure your

support and partnership.

Our Book Fair will be November 12th through the 16th. The

Book Fair is a good way to get some holiday shopping done, encourage

reading, and support our school. Parents can sign up to volunteer by

going to this link: https://volunteer.scholastic.com/#/experience/

signup/ldh8aysMP. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Conklin at

[email protected] or Mrs. Benedict at [email protected]. Family

Book Fair night is Wednesday, November 14th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:15

p.m. A flyer will be sent home to reserve your pizza dinner. Reserva-

tions are due by Friday, November 9, 2018.

American Education Week is Monday, November 12, 2018

through Friday, November 16, 2018. Families are invited to observe in

the classroom on Monday, November 12th from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

We ask that you call the office at 410-672-7591 to give the names of

attendees so that we may pre-print visitor badges. Observing your

child’s level of engagement and interactions with the teacher and their

classmates will be useful information if there are academic, social, or

behavior concerns. Visiting will also provide you with a better under-

standing of the curriculum and what quality and rigorous instruction

looks like. We hope you will be able to join us on Monday, November

12th.

Please know that we are always available to hear your con-

cerns, provide assistance in any way we can, and value your input or

suggestions. If we are not available, your phone call or email will be

returned as soon as possible.

Thank you for your support as we continue to work together to

make POES a positive learning environment where students are ex-

pected to “BE NICE” to others and be a “RARE” Snow Leopard

(Respectful, Accountable, Responsible, Empathetic).

Happy Thanksgiving!

Chorus/Band/Strings News

Please help students set aside time to practice and prepare for the winter concerts. Band & Strings students should focus on posture, good tone, note reading, finger placement, and fluency. Cho-rus students should focus on good tone, breathing, posture, and memorization. Practicing at home is es-sential for successful performance. A minimum of 10 minutes a day is recommended. See you at the con-certs!

From the Health Room:

This is a reminder to all parents that children with

a fever (oral temperature greater than 100 degrees

F) must stay home from school. They must be fever-

free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication

to be able to return to school. This is a Health De-

partment protocol to help reduce the spread of ill-

nesses. Please see informational sheet on Head Lice

attached. Thank you!

From: Kindergarten: Thank you to all of the parents who

chaperoned at the zoo. We couldn’t have done it without

you!

From Third Grade: Thank you to all of our chaperones who assisted with

the Londontowne Field Trip. You made it a success!

From First Grade: Many thanks to our chaperones who joined us on our

trip to Papa John’s Farm.

From the POES Staff: Thank you to Marcus Kerpelman’s Mom, Paige Des-

imone for the lovely miniature pumpkins she donated.

Piney Orchard Elementary School continues to make Wellness a priority for our students, staff, and families. Each month a calendar (see the November calendar attached) will come home to encourage families to be-come more physically active and to take steps toward a healthier lifestyle. Each day, students are asked to com-plete a different activity with a family member. When a child completes the monthly chart, we ask that you bring it back and your child will be recognized with a certificate for his/her participation in our family en-gagement wellness initiative.
