Address all correspondence & orders to: [email protected]
(Please mention “Plant Pre-Order” & note the particular show/event or “Mail Order” in the subject line)
This list replaces & supersedes all previous lists. All orders are filled in the order in which they are received and are subject to prior sale. Be aware that a few very special plants will only be reserved for your Pre-Order, for a show or mail order.
PLEASE NOTE: Prices are listed in US Dollars
NEW: We’ve chosen to separate the different types of Phalaenopsis
into their very own sections to make finding the type of Phalaenopsis you like much easier:
Phalaenopsis Categories are now divided into: Species, Multi-Floral Minis, Micro-Minis, “Big Lip” hybrids, Waxy (often Fragrant) Novelties
& larger-flowering Classic Phalaenopsis in new colors & patterns
We’ve also expanded our collection of miniature Vandaceous, miniature Dendrobiums, miniature Oncidinae &
divisions of some of our select Paphs in addition to Miscellaneous Genera ~
all of which grow & flower happily with our Phals. Each genus is put into their own category after our Phal. listings.
Most plants are in 2.7 - 3” pots as first or second bloomers unless otherwise noted as being in 4” pots
Stock quantities of 6 or fewer are noted in parens
ORDERING INFORMATION FOR OUR MAIL ORDER CLIENTS:
In the winter or during inclement weather, shipments may be delayed pending more moderate weather conditions. Shipping is either
via FedEx Ground or Air depending on the final destination. We reserve the right to withdraw any offering from sale and to limit quantities. We guarantee all plants to be true to their identity to the best of our knowledge. However, since many come in from Taiwan, we have to assume they are properly labeled as to their species or hybrid name. We make no warranty as to the productiveness of any
plants sold since everyone’s culture conditions vary widely.
Although we do our utmost to pack carefully, we are not responsible for damage to buds or flowers due to shipping if buyer specifically requests these plants ~ therefore, risk is assumed by buyer for buds or flowers on plants shipped at this stage
Safe arrival of a healthy orchid plant is guaranteed.
Packing & Shipping Charges:
Based on the total of your order, a minimum of 10% for packing plus the actual FedEx shipping cost will be charged. We use FedEx Ground for all 1-3 day deliveries within our delivery zone since Ground shipping rates are much more reasonable than Air.
If heat packs are requested, they will be provided for an additional $4.50.
Additional Shipping Note: FedEx charges an extra $3.50 for “Home Delivery” so many of our clients choose to have their plants
delivered either to their office or to a nearby FedEx Ship Center that accepts “Hold for Pickup” packages ~ those business/FedEx locations always get their deliveries much earlier in the day than the average Home Delivery. If you want to save the additional charge
levied for Home Delivery, please let us know if you have a business address you would like to use, or we can research a FedEx location near you that would accept a Ground or Express package as a “Hold for Pickup”.
During the colder & hotter months of the year, having your plants sent to either your business address or a FedEx location as a “Hold for Pickup” usually means it’s delivered much earlier in the day & is not exposed to riding around on a cold or hot delivery vehicle for
additional hours. So whenever possible, we highly recommend doing this.
SIZE DEFINITIONS:
PF = Previously flowered, fully mature Blooming Size plants F = Currently in flower (single spike unless otherwise noted) B = In bud (single spike unless otherwise noted) SP = In spike, just initiating to medium spike stage (single spike unless otherwise noted) BS = Blooming size (should flower in season) NBS = Near blooming size (approximately 1 year to flowering in season) S = about 2-3 years to flowering
PHAL SPECIES:
Most of these Phalaenopsis species are from Taiwan & reflect much improved forms & colors, having been sibbed or selfed using very select parents. Species like Phal. bellina, violacea, venosa, speciosa, gigantea, viridis and javanica are extremely
slow to reach maturity & can be easily lost as small seedlings so we’re only offering well-established Near Blooming or Blooming Size plants. As a result of their extra years to reach maturity, the pricing on these plants is higher than is usual for
quicker growing & more readily available Phal. species.

Phal. aphrodite subsp. formosana
‘A09001’ (4N)
(TETRAPLOID FORM of Species)
A dynamite tetraploid form of this favorite of all Phal. species ! This clone is producing more compact leaves and much larger flowers than is typical for this subspecies of aphrodite. Its fuller
form & beautifully round flowers with the petals almost touching carries great
substance & produces a much longer-lasting display with a smaller leaf span than is typical for this species. And the bonus to this particular 4N strain is their naturally & gracefully cascading spikes
which make for a stunning display !

Phal. bellina fma. coerulea
(Sib Cross of FRAGRANT Species)
The fragrant & beautiful Phal. bellina in a new color form ! This cerulean strain has
a blue flush which, along with its deep lavender lip, makes quite a statement. And a few from this sibbing will revert
with a more typical rich pink bellina flush. This species will continue to flower on
older inflorescences in addition to producing new. We’re guessing this
group is about a year from flowering & yet we’ve seen a couple spike up already,
showing their increased vigor as a sib cross ~ of course, they sold right away !

chattaladae has a totally solid red back to its flowers with no hint of yellow
anywhere except the very tips of the lateral sepals, & it retains its solid red
color, even on the fading flowers, whereas fma. rubescens will begin to
show yellow as the flowers fade.
Phal. equestris fma. alba
(Rare pure alba form of Species)
These seedlings are from the same population as a select form of this
species to which we gave the clonal name ‘Tara’s Beauty’ (pictured on the
right) ! The flowers are fuller and much longer lasting than is typical for the
species which leads us to wonder if it’s a tetraploid (4N) population. Their
vigorously branching spikes make this strain highly desirable. We often leave
their still-green spikes on each plant since they can readily produce keikis on
those spikes in addition to producing new flowering spikes !

Not often available, this strain is the result of a selfing of an extremely good

species does better in our greenhouses when grown a little cooler & shadier at a
lower bench level. And for its best flowering display, many growers mount
this species.

Phal. tetraspis var. green (Green tipped form of Species)
We sold out of these the minute we
posted them a year ago ~ but we just found a few more to share ! When
flowered in the winter, its green influence is not as strong as when it flowers during
the spring or fall when it’s brighter & cooler. Previously flowered spikes will stay green so don’t remove them but
allow them to continue to produce additional flowers in season while still creating new flowering spikes. We’ve
also found that this particular color form of the species improves as the plants mature ~ a worthy addition to every
collection !

PHALAENOPSIS HYBRIDS
Most of these clones are the result of cutting-edge Taiwanese breeding programs & are plants we’ve hand-selected from some of the most forward-thinking nurseries during our annual trips to Taiwan to judge their TIOS Orchid Show. The
advantage to many of the Multi-floral Minis is that they tend to spike more than once a year due to their breeding background. We’ve actually discovered that many were spiking again within 3-4 months after the initial flowering was over !
PLEASE NOTE: With many of the harlequins & the blue, red or orange novelties, differences in light & temperature at various
times of the year will cause some variation to occur in the flower color and/or intensity of their markings. Under warmer temperatures & more shaded conditions in the summer, many red novelty-type hybrids with yellow or orange in their breeding background will flower showing more of the influence of those colors. Under cooler temperatures & brighter light in the fall to
winter months, the red pigment in the flowers is more strongly expressed resulting in solid to nearly solid red flowers.
Also, many hybrids with a heavy Harlequin influence will show their boldest and most vivid colors when bloomed under cooler temperatures & brighter light during the fall & winter.
In addition, many of the Novelty-type hybrids with Phal. bellina and/or violacea in their background improve in color intensity
and size with fuller form on their 2nd
& 3rd
flowerings, as do the actual species parents.

A stunning harlequin-influenced multi-floral miniature ! Its flowers are heavily suffused with harlequin spotting fusing
to an intense & velvety dark fuchsia-burgundy (darker than our photo shows) covering most of the flowers, leaving just a charming fuchsia-pink picotee as a halo
around its segments. This particular hybrid also has very attractive silvery-
green foliage as opposed to the traditional dark green leaves of many

Finally, an easy-to-grow primary hybrid of

charming species ! For many, Phal. lobbii is one of the more difficult species to grow so we’re always looking for near-
primaries that produce flowers like the species but are much easier to grow & flower. This little cutie flowers on very
compact spikes over delightfully miniature round leaves, giving us, on its first flowering, two spikes with 5 or more flowers per spike & will continue to add
more buds to its original spikes in addition to producing new. So if the spikes remain green, do not remove them. As these grow up we expect

“BIG LIP” (Tri-Petaloid) HYBRIDS:
One of the most important factors in today’s “Big Lip” breeding is a large flat lip that is almost identical to the petals ! We have seen some pretty poor hybrids in this new line of breeding over the past 2-3 years, with their “big lips” either cupped or
crippled, or with the “lip” dropping so far down from the other segments of the flower that you could drive a truck right through it ! The clones we choose to carry must have a beautiful broad flat lip tucked right up into the flower itself so it gives
the definite impression of a 3-petal flower. There have been only a few so far that meet those standards for us, & we’re excited to be able to share some of them with everyone.

WAXY ~ OFTEN FRAGRANT ~ BRIGHTLY-COLORED NOVELTIES:
This group of Waxy Novelties includes limited Stem Props & Poly Props from Taiwan. As mentioned under Phal. species, due
to the heavy influence of the slower-growing species of Phal. bellina, violacea, lueddemanniana, amboinensis & venosa in their breeding backgrounds, it often takes an additional year or two for these hybrids to reach flowering size as opposed to a standard Phalaenopsis. But once they do, they’re well worth the wait for their vivid color, thick long-lasting waxy flowers & amazing fragrances. They also have a tendency to produce basal keikis from the mother plant for the ultimate presentation.
In addition, many of these Novelty-type hybrids improve even more in their color intensity and size, adding fuller form on their 2
nd & 3
rd flowerings. They will retain previously flowered green spikes, continuing to add more buds to them, while still
producing additional spikes ~ within a couple of years these plants can be surrounded with multiple spikes in full flower for a sensational show to please all the senses !

SELECT ONE-OF-A-KIND NOVELTY SEEDLINGS:
Many of our novelty or select seedlings will be flowering for the first time for us this spring into fall ~ and with Phal. bellina in the background of many, as first bloomers they will initially produce only 1-3 flowers on their first spikes. This type of
breeding is extremely slow to grow to maturity due to the heavy influence of the slower-growing waxy Phal species in their background. With these waxy novelties, we leave any still-green spikes on the plants since they will most likely add more
buds to these spikes in addition to producing new spikes at their next flowering. Some people choose to remove the initial spikes & give the energy back to the plant. However, we’ve never noticed (with novelty-type breeding) that it makes much
difference in the overall vigor of the plant since their parentage carries the habit of retaining older spikes. Also, their flower form, color and size improve enormously with their 2
nd & 3
rd flowerings. But ~ the real bonus to owning a One-of-a-Kind plant
is that you can give it your own clonal name !
OTHER GENERA WHICH GROW HAPPILY UNDER PHALAENOPSIS CONDITIONS:
MINIATURE VANDACEOUS:
All these species & hybrids grow & flower easily WITH our Phals under the same light & temperature conditions since they are miniature growers, requiring much lower light than their larger-growing & flowering cousins. We’re growing them in deep small plastic baskets to allow their roots to dry slightly between waterings. In the winter we slip these little baskets into rose pots to allow the roots to continue to grow down from the basket, our own approach to “collaring” that Alan Koch of Gold Country Orchids does with his plants in clay pots. These are mostly miniature, & a few compact, growing species & hybrids, many of which will readily form basal keikis to become beautiful specimen miniatures producing multitudes of spikes at the same time on all of their mature growths. And most of them are also delightfully FRAGRANT !

Cattlianthe (Pot.) Fairyland
(Ctt, Candy Tuft x C. Beaufort)
C. Beaufort is one of our most favorite among all compact/miniature Cattleya parents for its small growth habit while still producing large flowers ! This little
hybrid has flowered in various color forms, from white with a whisper of a
pink picotee to soft lemon yellow backed with a hint of pink with a few flowering
pure white ~ each color form is accented with large beautifully frilly yellow lips.
These little gems can flower twice a year, spring & fall, under Phalaenopsis
conditions. No matter which color flower results from each seedling, they will remain compact growers, perfect for
lower light windowsill and under-lights culture ~ not to mention space-
challenged growing !

Fredclarkeara After Dark
’Sunset Valley Orchids’ FCC/AOS
(Mo. Painted Desert x Ctsm. Donna Wise)
Easily grown under Phalaenopsis conditions, this particular clone of
Fredclarkeara After Dark produces tawny green flowers, heavily spotted maroon over all ! Its heavy substance flowers
with a waxy texture lead to a long-lasting display. In 2005 this plant was the
recipient of the Merritt W. Huntington Award as the most outstanding plant that
had been granted an FCC/AOS. When awarded with its FCC, it was vigorously displaying 48 flowers on three pendant inflorescences, all emerging from just one pseudobulb ! A great exhibit plant and a stunner when in flower. These
plants are now just completing their new leafy growths in preparation for
fall/winter flowering.
Of special note: We shifted our exhibit plants of Fredclarkeara into New Zealand
moss as an experiment to keep the deciduous growths plump & have noted that its even moisture supply helps keep the older pseudobulbs from desiccating while giving increased vigor to the new growths. We have since moved all our
stock of this type into NZ Moss & they’re thriving !

Howeara (now Leomesezia) Lava Burst
‘Puananii’ AM/AOS
(Mini-Primi x Rodriguezia lanceolata)
An adorable & very floriferous miniature member of the Oncidium family ! Its
long-lasting flowers can appear twice a year, eventually creating a giant cloud of
electric red. An intergeneric hybrid of Rodriguezia, Oncidium & Leochilus,
these plants remain small yet produce gently cascading compact spikes held
well above its miniature foliage with multitudes of small red flowers bearing broad spotted lips. Cooler & brighter
conditions will produce the deepest red color in its flowers. We’ve heard from
several growers that one of the clonings of this ‘Puananii’ population resulted in dull salmon flowers so we’ve flowered them all to assure that this cloning is producing the bright red flowers that we’d like to see from it. A vigorous
bloomer, several of our plants had just finished flowering, & we discovered that
they were still making even more new spikes, each pseudobulb capable of
producing up to four spikes. Perfect for under-lights or windowsill growing !

Ionocidium Popcorn ‘Highland’
(Gom. flexuosa x Inps. utricularioides)
A “cute as a button” micro-mini from the Oncidium family ! Mega compact short
leaves produce graceful readily-branching spikes of adorable miniature flowers in abundance. An easy-to-grow primary hybrid, much easier than its two more difficult species ~ making it ideal
for those who love its species parentage. Flowers first open as soft yellow,
maturing to shell pink, creating an ever changing display on each spike.
Absolutely perfect for space-challenged collections, under-lights & windowsill
growing !

Onc. Alosuka ‘Claire’
(Memoria Kiyoshi Akatsuka x Aloha Sunshine)
If you’ve always loved the flowers of Onc. varicosum, Onc. Killer Bees and Onc.
Island’s Love but found them more difficult to grow, this is the perfect
answer ! Onc. Alosuka is an easy-to-grow miniature bearing the same brilliant
golden yellow lip accented with a dramatically contrasting almost-black
blotch at its base. The flowers take after its dramatically yellow & chocolate-
accented Memoria Kiyoshi Akatusuka parentage with Aloha Sunshine adding ease of growth. This clone can flower
twice a year when fully mature, producing multiple gently arching & branching
inflorescences from each newly maturing pseudobulb, compact & readily
branching on very young plants. Unlike Onc. Moon Shadow, its spikes are much
more compact, branching freely on gently arching inflorescences & its flowers are
rounder & fuller. Also, it’s black contrast is much darker & more dramatic than that
of Onc. Moon Shadow.

Onc. (Gomesa) Moon Shadow
’Tiger Tail’ AM/AOS
(Cytocidium Hornet x Big Bee)
We’ve always loved the brilliant yellow flowers of Onc. (Gomesa) varicosa,
especially with its boldly contrasting deep chocolate petals ! However, under our growing conditions that particular species never did well at all. This little hybrid has so much Onc. varicosa in its breeding background that it looks just
like Onc. varicosa, yet it is infinitely easier to grow & flower under our
Phalaenopsis conditions. Vigorously branching cascading spikes over
miniature growths make this clone a sure winner !

Pot. Young-Min Orange
’Golden Satisfaction’ AM/AOS
(Viola Nuggett x Lc. Trick or Treat)
This spectacular clone of Pot. Young-Min Orange knocked all the AOS judges out with its amazingly floriferous display at the Taiwan International Orchid Show in 2010. It was awarded that year with over
150 flowers and buds borne on 20 inflorescences, a display of vivid fiery
orange, capable of producing 7+ flowers per spike when fully mature. Two years
later in 2012, when exhibited again in Taiwan at the show, it had virtually doubled in size & since then has
quadrupled, being brought in to a recent show in a wheelbarrow ! This vigorous &
extremely compact grower can flower twice a year with long-lasting waxy &
lightly FRAGRANT flowers, their orange
intensifying as the flowers mature. Grows & flowers happily under lower light Phalaenopsis conditions ~ the
pleasure of a brightly colored Cattleya without the large plant size !

Propetalum La Jolla Delight
‘Hilo Orchid Farm’ AM/AOS
(Promenaea stapelioides x Zygo. Kiwi Dusk)
JUST AWARDED !
We just had our plant of this clone
awarded an AM/AOS at the MontrealExpo Show last March ! An enormous
improvement over prior makes of this hybrid, due in large part to the dark &
heavily suffused clones of its parents. A wonderfully compact grower, standing just 8-10” in height, these plants will
grow happily under low to medium light, right next to Phalaenopsis, and their
waxy flowers can last for weeks. They can flower any time of the year in
response to the onset of new growths, & we’ve had several flower twice within just
two months so they have no particular flowering season ! They will grow
equally well under intermediate temperatures although we grow them just
a bit warmer with our Phalaenopsis. Keep moist to help maintain their plump
pseudobulbs but do not allow the medium to become soggy.

dark, almost black, flowers as Bratonia Kauai’s Choice, this hybrid sports a
brilliant red lip as opposed to the white lip of Kauai’s Choice. Either hybrid is an eye-catcher, not only for its almost black
flowers but also for its dramatically contrasting lips. A new favorite of ours !

appear brown in this photo, they are actually almost black.)

Zed. Kukoo
(Zelenkoa onusta x Onc. cheirophorum) We just love this newest petite micro-
miniature find from the Oncidium family ! As a primary intergeneric hybrid of two
perfectly delightful miniature species, it’s capable of producing a multitude of small
bright yellow flowers on tall, often branching, spikes over its micro-
miniature foliage, the foliage being no more than 3-4” in height. This little
charmer is infinitely easier to grow than its species parentage & flowers any time
of the year, at least twice a year as its new growths mature. A delightfully
adorable little accent orchid, perfect for windowsill, space-challenged or under
