military for one year at age 18• Israel is about 80% Jewish, 20% Muslim• Israel continues to struggle with the
Palestinian territories of Gaza and the West Bank, as well as with the future of Jerusalem
Palestinian Territories• Originally set aside by the UN as areas for a Palestinian
homeland, they were rejected by the Palestinians and lost during the Six Day War

Afghanistan• Afghanistan was invaded by the Soviet Union in the
