The Books-the-Other Channel book discussion group will discuss “The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry” by Gabrielle Zevin on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:30 pm in the lower level of the library. “In this sweet, uplifting homage to bookstores, Zevin perfectly captures the joy of connecting people and books . . . Time to Tangle: Color Wednesday, Sept. 30th

6–8 pm in the lower level Join Sue Younker for a free workshop to explore using color in Zentangle® inspired ink drawings. Participants should bring the following items: a leaf, pencil, micron 01 pen, ultra fine black marker and watercolor pencils. Class is free however, donations are always appreciated. Please call the library at 715-546-3391 to register as class is limited to 20 students (ages 12+ yrs.).

YA Team Trivia

Meet Mary Pat Kelly Wednesday, September 2nd at 7:00 pm

at the Three Lakes Center for the Arts

Mary Pat Kelly will discuss her latest novel Of Irish

Blood (2015), which is the sequel to her best-selling novel

Galway Bay (2009). She will talk about the extensive

research she conducted in Ireland and France, sharing

stories of the interesting people she met along the way

and how the novel is based on historical figures including

her Irish-American family. Concessions will be available

to purchase with a book signing to follow this free program

sponsored by the Demmer Library.

Mary Pat has been coming to Medicine Lake since she was 5 years old and fell in love

with books at the Three Lakes library which she still uses gratefully every summer.

Born and raised in Chicago, she lives on Manhattan’s Upper West Side with her

husband, app developer Martin Sheerin from County Tyrone.

YA Team Trivia Night Wednesday, September 16th at 5:30 pm in the Library Lower Level Students in 7th grade and older are invited to join us for our Young Adult Team Trivia Night. The event will begin at 5:30 pm with free pizzas courtesy of the Black Forest Pub and Grille with other refreshments provided by the library. The trivia contest begins promptly at 6:00 pm. Individual players may be added to teams so that each team has 6 players with priority given to high school students. Teams will discuss the questions and submit their written answers for scoring. Prizes will be awarded for the winning team with the highest score, the team with the best name, and the best dressed team. No devices, books or other materials may be used to answer the questions. Call the Demmer Library at 715-546-3391 before Sept. 15th to register your team. Event is limited to the first 6 teams that register up to 6 team players, each team must have at least 2 young adults on the team.

The Friends met on August 3rd for their annual meeting. Peggy Bennett was elected as Friends president and Sarah Ewing became the membership chairperson. Do you love the Library? Join the Friends of the Demmer Library. We are looking for folks who enjoy books and like to know what’s happening at the library.

The next book sale will be on Saturday, September 26th, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. – noon in the lower level of the library. Thank you to the Friends of the Demmer Library for their donation of $943 raised at the Annual 4th of July Book Sale. The funds will be used to benefit the Demmer Library.

Good News from the Demmer Library Building Campaign:

We are working with Becher Hoppe to develop a revised building plan. Final costs will be presented on Sept. 1, 2015.

We have successfully raised $1 million towards the Demmer Library Expansion and Renovation thanks to people like you.

Attractive book bags designed by students at the Three Lakes Elementary School are available for $10 each at the Library to help support the building campaign.

The Three Lakes Public Library Foundation dedicates all funds received directly to the Demmer Library Building Fund. It is locally administered by volunteers.

The 501c(3)Three Lakes Public Library Foundation is accepting donations including cash, appreciated stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and IRA distributions.
