EDUCATION FOR EMPOWERMENT.
Editor‟s Note
by Arfah Faiq.
Twelve years as a student at
HGS prepared me for meeting
deadlines, juggling between
activities and organising
events within few days.
Therefore, when I was asked
to bring out a newsletter in
three weeks, I did not feel
intimidated. I have
endeavoured to bring the
reader brief account of life at
HGS. It is hoped that you find
this newsletter an informative
and an enjoyable read.
Happy Reading!

Founder‟s Day
Celebrations
Habib Girls‟ School celebrated its
GoldenJubilee on 19th August,
2014. Although founder‟s day is
celebrated every year with a huge
amount of pride and exhilaration,
this year the Golden Jubilee
celebrations were taken to a
completely different level.
A whole ambiance was created
which showed that something big
was happening the moment you
stepped in school.For the
ceremony, the Primary Section
presented a song called
“IntehaiShauq”, the Secondary
Section presented a tribute to all
the teachers from the school‟s
initiation to present day, the Higher
Secondary Section came up with
a skit paying homage to the
founders while the Pre-Primary
Section ended the proceedings
with a display of both song and
dance.Mr. Muslim Habib was
invited to cut the cake and the
day concluded with all the
students, alumni, faculty and
members of the trust beingproud
of what they have accomplished
together.
Independence Day
Celebrations
Since 14th August is a national
holiday, Independence Day was
celebrated on 13th of August this
year. Like every other year,
children came to school dressed in
the colours of our national flag.
They sang songs and paid tribute
to the people who made a
separate homeland possible.
Ayesha Jawed from class V-C
gave a heart rending speech
about the importance of
independence and the Primary
choir presented national songs.
The pre-primary section also
conducted an assembly in which
students enhanced their
knowledge about Pakistan and its
independence. Similarly, children
from the Secondary Section and
College presented skits and tried
to play their part in reawakening
the national spirit.
Eid Celebrations
Eid is a joyous occasion and it is
celebrated at the school in its true
spirit. Special arrangements are
made to make it a fun filled and
entertaining event every year. This
year too, various activities such as
animated movies, donkey rides,
and trampolines, jumping castles,
merry-go-rounds, pirate ships and
art activities were organized by all
the sections and the day ended
with children enjoying mouth-
watering snacks with their friends.
Hand Washing Day
Promoting good health and
hygiene practices in our children is
a top priority at Habib Girls‟ School.
We believe that the health of a
child affects the entire social setup
of the classroom, family and peers.
Research has also shown that
healthy children are capable of
developing better study habits.
Therefore, a hand washing
program was initiated on the
International Hand Washing Day in
which our children were taught
theproper way to wash hands.
Make-shift sinks were also installed
so that the children could practice
what they were taught.

Youm – e – Hussain Youm – e – Hussain was organized
on the 27th of November, 2014.
Students from all the sections
participated by reciting „Nohas‟.
The event concluded with a
lecture on the Importance of
Hazrat Imam Hussain‟s sacrifice.
Assembly
Presentations
Confidence building is an essential
part of a child‟s development and
our school firmly believes in the
holistic development of each and
every child. Conducting morning
assembly presentations is one such
way to enhance the child‟s
learning. Teachers select a theme
based on the values of our society
and the whole class participates
which promotes team work, better
linguistic skills, and leadership
qualities and confidence.
Security Drills
In the light of some recent
events and the Peshawar
school incident, security
situation in our city has
worsened. Therefore, as per the
instructions of the government,
Habib Girls‟ School has reviewed
its security arrangements and has
also started carrying out
emergency exercises including
safety drills, fire drills, evacuation
drills etc. These exercises began in
the mid of December and are
being conducted in phases. It
ishoped that in the next few days
our entire support staff, faculty
and student body will be
adequately trained and the entire
security plan will be in complete
effect.
THE PRE
PRIMARY
SECTION
New Nursery Orientation
Every year the school welcomes
a new batch of eager students.
These little children start school
with a certain wonderment and
curiosity that is difficult to match.
Therefore, before every academic
session begins, the pre-primary
section organises an orientation for
the parents so that they are better
informed on how the school works,
our syllabus and policy. The
orientation was held on 16th August
this year and we were very proud
to engage our parents in a
relationship of mutual trust and
cooperation.
Colour Day
Young children while exploring the
world around them are extremely
attracted to colours. This is an age
where they are discovering things
and carefully storing them in their
memory. To enhance this process
further, colour day was celebrated
HABIBIAN TIMES | Issue # 1 4
on the 5th of September in which
each class chose a colour and
then decorated their surroundings
with it. Different activities were also
organized in relation to their colour
including art and craft.
Milk Activity
Milk is one of the key items a
person should include in his diet at
all costs. Unfortunately, very few
children report drinking milk every
day and parents are often seen
complaining and asking teachers
to help in this regard. Therefore,
Milk activity was organized in
which children were told the
importance of drinking milk
especially at a young age. They
were also given milk to drink along
with a range of other dairy
products.
Fruit and Vegetable Salad
Healthy eating habits were further
stressed upon when our children
celebrated the fruit and vegetable
salad activity. They were taught
how to make fruit and vegetable
salads. They cut and mixed the
fruits and vegetables themselves
and at the end of the day it was a
fun-filled and informative session
for all.
Breakfast Activity
One can never over specify the
significance of a good breakfast
for a healthy lifestyle. However, it is
a major cause of concern that
children today try their best to
avoid eating early in the morning.
Therefore, a breakfast activity was
carried out for two days on the 23rd
and 24th of September in which the
school hosted a breakfast buffet
for the children so that they could
identify the many items one can
eat for breakfast and understand
the importance of healthy eating
habits.
We are very pleased that we got a
lot of positive reports from the
parents about their kids starting to
have breakfast after the activity at
school.
Field Trip
Right before the winter break, after
the children were through with
their assessment, they were taken
on a fun excursion trip to Sindbad
in DHA on the 26th of November. It
was amazing to see little children
running around without a care in
the world and enjoying different
rides.
