WELCOME TO CHONGQING CHINA
Towering mountains, keyed to the valley, carry the three thousand years of civilization
in Chongqing. In this mighty history, with its great cohesion and the power of
radiation, Chongqing has been not only an ancient regional military and political
center, but an important commercial material distribution center for thousands years
which has keep its prosperity. In the last hundred years, by the reform and opening-up
policy, Chongqing has taken off from an ancient military strategic past to become the
hub of central and western of China. From an ancient regional trade center, it has
become the economic center of Yangtze River. From a single type of re-export centre
in the nineteenth century city it has grown into western China's largest
multi-functional modern industrial and commercial city. From being the eastern port
city of the Sichuan province it has developed to a municipality directly under the
jurisdiction of the Central Government which is based on China and facing the World.
With an important moment at the turn of the century, history once again pushed to
Chongqing to a new starting line. Chongqing opened up a new chapter with the
construction of Three Gorges Project, the establishment of the central municipality
and the western development strategy.
Chongqing is famous for mountains and fog, and has the typical character of a humid
subtropical monsoon climate. In November, Chongqing has pleasant weather and
comfortable temperatures.
You are warmly welcomed to Chongqing!

THCHNICAL VISITS
17th
November (Thursday)
The arrangements are as follows:
■ Excavation engineering of the main city of the Orchard Port area of
Chongqing
The Orchard Port area of Chongqing is an important part of the shipping center in the
Yangtze River, and also the largest inland water transport, railway and highway
transport port. The area of the Port is 4000 sq. kilometers and it has 4 loading and
unloading berths. The port has the capacity to handle ro-ro bulk, breakbulk, containers
and the loading and unloading of other goods. There is a berthing capacity for
5000t-class ships. It is designed for a total capacity of 30 million tons with a total
investment of 60 billion plans and will be fully completed in 2013. The Changjiang
Waterway Bureau uses a tender process to undertake some of the Orchard Port basin
excavation and hydraulic structures.
■ Maintenance dredging of the Zhanzezi runway silt in the Chongqing Sector of
the Yangtze River
13
The Yangtze River is a large mountain river. The river twists and turns, its width
varies and its channel morphology is complex. Upstream water and sediment supply
has seasonal changes and in the larger part of the river in the dry season results in the
need for channel maintenance dredging to maintain the scale of the facilities. This
project uses grab dredger digging with mud barge shipment of spoil away for
construction. ■ Yangtze River natural river boat inspection.
SOCIAL PROGRAMME
In order to promote mutual exchange and friendship in the international dredging
sector, a Welcome Gala Dinner will be held in the evening of 16th
November, 2011.
