The Score of National Examination is evaluation the students’ achievement that
conducted by government using same test in the same time. National Examination
is conducted to evaluate the English achievement for three years either in Junior
High School or Senior High School. English achievement is result of an English
evaluation in knowledge, skill, and attitude as the result of English learning
showed by score. The tenth grade students are students who study at SMK NU
Ma’arif Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013.
This research aims to know the correlation between the score of English
National Examination and the English Achievement of the Tenth Grade Students
of SMK NU Ma’arif Kudus in the Academic Year 2012/2013.
This is a correlation research. The populations of the research are all of the
tenth grade students of SMK NU Ma’arif Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013.
The sample that is taken by the researcher is 5% from each class. The instrument
that used is the documentation of the students’ score of English National
Examination in Junior High School and the students’ achievement of English in
rapport (even semester) in Vocational School.
The result of the research shows that: a) The National Examination of the
tenth grade students of SMK NU Ma’arif Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013
is sufficient (The mean is 71.48 by standard deviation 35.62). b) The English
achievement of the tenth grade students of SMK NU Ma’arif Kudus in the
academic year 2012/2013 is very good (The mean is 85.24 by standard deviation
4.58). c) From the result of the correlation, it was found that r-calculated = -0.106
and r-table = 0.413 in the level significance 5% from degree freedom (df) N-2
(23-2 = 21). In other word, r-table is higher than r-calculated (rt > rxy). Therefore,
it can be said that the hypothesis of the research is rejected, while the null
hypothesis is confirmed.
Based on the result of the research above, the researcher suggests that the
English teacher can motivate the students to increase their English achievement
although they got either bad or good score of English National Examination. And
for the students, they are supposed to study hard in all condition either in daily
learning process or in National Examination.

Skor Ujian Nasional adalah evaluasi hasil belajar yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah
dengan menggunakan tes yang sama dalam waktu yang bersamaan. Ujian nasional
dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi prestasi Bahasa Inggris selama tiga tahun, baik di
SMP atau SMA. Prestasi Bahasa Inggris adalah hasil dari evaluasi Bahasa Inggris
dalam pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan sikap sebagai hasil belajar bahasa Inggris
yang ditunjukkan oleh skor. Para siswa kelas X adalah siswa yang belajar di SMK
Ma'arif NU Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Hubungan antara Skor Ujian Nasional
Bahasa Inggris dan Prestasi Bahasa Inggris dari Siswa Kelas Sepuluh SMK
Ma’arif NU Kudus pada Tahun Akademik 2012/2013.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian korelasi. Populasi penelitian ini adalah semua
siswa kelas X SMK NU Ma'arif Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013. Sampel
yang diambil oleh peneliti adalah 5% dari masing-masing kelas. Instrumen yang
digunakan adalah dokumentasi dari skor siswa dalam Ujian Nasional Bahasa
Inggris di SMP dan prestasi bahasa inggris siswa pada rapport (semester genap) di
SMK.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: a) Ujian Nasional siswa kelas X SMK NU
Ma'arif Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013 sudah cukup (rata-rata adalah
71,48 dengan standar deviasi 35,62) . b) Pencapaian Inggris siswa kelas X SMK
NU Ma'arif Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013 sangat baik (rata-rata adalah
85,24 dengan standar deviasi 4,58). c) Dari hasil korelasi, ditemukan bahwa r-
perhitungan = -0,106 dan r-tabel = 0,413 pada tingkat signifikansi 5% dari
kebebasan derajat (df) N - 2 (23-2 = 21). Dengan kata lain, r-tabel lebih tinggi dari
r-perhitungan (rt > rxy). Oleh karena itu, dapat dikatakan bahwa hipotesis
penelitiannya ditolak, sedangkan hipotesis nol dikonfirmasi .
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian di atas, peneliti menunjukkan bahwa guru bahasa
Inggris dapat memotivasi siswa untuk meningkatkan prestasi bahasa Inggris
mereka meskipun mereka punya skor baik itu skor yang buruk ataupun skor yang
baik dalam Ujian Nasional Bahasa Inggris. Dan bagi para siswa, mereka
seharusnya belajar keras dalam semua kondisi baik dalam proses pembelajaran
sehari-hari ataupun saat Ujian Nasional.
