With over 10 years of experience, Susi Yu, senior vice president with Forest City Ratner Companies, has been leading the development of large scale, mixed-use urban projectsand is currently w orking on the development of the first residential building within the

 Atlantic Yards development in downtown Brooklyn. B2, once completed, will be the tallestmodular building in the world. Ms. Yu will discuss the changes occurring in urbanmultifamily development and the use of modular construction in the commercial real estateindustry today.

Ms. Yu oversaw the initial master planning and re-development of the Fr ankGehry -designed $4.9 billion, 22 acre, Atlantic Yards project that w ill include appr oximately 6 millionsquare feet of residential space (6,430 units of affordable and market-rate housing), astate of the art sports and entertainment arena, the recently opened Barclays Center (home to the renamed Brooklyn Nets), 247,000 square feet of retail use, approximately336,000 square feet of office space and 8 acres of publicly accessible open space. B2will be the first of the three residential towers to rise on the arena site. Composed of 350residential units, it w ill employ a unique architectural and structural design approach that isnot immediately outwardly apparent; B2 will be the tallest modular building in the world. Theconstruction of B2 will start by end of 2012. Recently, Ms. Yu oversaw the development of 8 Spruce Street, a 76-story, 1.1 millionsquare foot mixed-use project, the tallest residential tower in North America, w ith 896market-rate rental units atop a new K-8 public school on a one acre site overlooking theBrooklyn Bridge in Lower Manhattan. The project opened in March 2011 and absorptionand rents are in line with projections. Ms. Yu’s previous projects include negotiating the acquisition of 800,000 SF of development rights w ith Polytechnic University and overseeing pre-development of a900,000 SF academic and residential tower. In 2007, she w orked on Forest CityEnterprise’s response to a competitive RFPissued by San Francisco’s Transbay JointPowers Authority for a 1.5 million SF, $1.2 billion mixed-use retail, community facility, off ice,hotel and residential inter-modal project. She also completed the development of 350,000SF office building at MetroTech and led the initial development of a cultural and residentialproject in Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Cultural District. In 2002, she also w orked onnegotiating a development agreement w ith University Heights Science Park to develop 1.7MSF of life science labs, off ices, retail and residential units in Newark, NJ. Trained as an architect at the University of Virginia’s School of Architecture, Ms. Yupreviously worked for 10 years as an architect, most recently as a Project Architect for Robert A.M. Stern on such projects as the Nashville Public Library, Disney Orlando Hotel, a$10 million Private Residence in Dallas Texas and the Sterling Glen Senior Residences inRoslyn, New York. She is also a graduate of Columbia University’s Master of Science inReal Estate Development Programand is a registered architect in New York State.
