First Info night for Parents and Travellers
We have decided to change the study of a natural landscape in Level 2 Geo from The Amazon to Borneo.
So we changed the trip too…
Where we are at…
Up to 30 yr 12 and 13 Students and 3 teachers will travel to Borneo in The September Holidays of 2014
This will be to extend the learning done in class about Rainforests.
What is proposed ??
Senior Management have accepted our trip proposal.
Multiple draft Ideas have been worked through over the last 3 months
All providers of transport and accommodation have been contacted and evaluated.

Status of the trip
The preliminary cost is around $4000Inclusive of
Flights, Accommodation, Transfers,Dinners, Entry to attractions/activities.
Students will need to organise their own Travel Insurance and Medical needs (inoculations as needed see next slide)

Please ensure that the passport you hold is eligible for entry into Malaysia,
You may need to organise visas. New Zealand passports are fine
Requirements
Students must have met all their school commitments ie fees/behaviour to be accepted on this experience
The Geography Staff/Deans reserve the right to deny some student’s applications based on past behaviour.
There is a huge amount of personal responsibility involved in a trip like this and behaviour must not jeopardise the safety of the group.

The Itinerary
Stop over in Kuala Lumpur for one night , go up the Petronas towers.
Fly via Kuala Lumpur
Fly from Kl to Borneo – Sandakan. Check in to the Sepilok Jungle resort for one night.
Day 2
Transfer to Sandakan River cruise 3 day, 2 Night package.
The safari includes overnight accommodation at the comfortable and hospitable Kinabatangan Nature Lodge, evening meal, breakfast and transport from / to Sandakan airport or a hotel in Sandakan
Day 3
Kinabatangan Nature Lodge
Go on a 3D2N Kinabatangan River and Wildlife safari trip and get a glimpse of the stunning, and often unique, wildlife and rainforests of Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia.
The Kinabatangan River is the longest river in Sabah emerging high in the Crocker Range and travelling 560km down to its mangrove swamp estuary
The Kinabatangan River provides a unique and rich ecosystem and the concentration of wildlife in the lower reaches of the Kinabatangan River is remarkable and is acknowledged by experts to be the most varied and easily accessible wildlife in all of Southeast Asia.
The WWF (World Wildlife Fund) states that the Kinabatangan River in Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia is one of only two known places on Earth where 10 primate species can be found. This includes the Bornean Orang Utan, the Proboscis Monkey, Macaques, Maroon Langur and Bornean Gibbon, most of which are endemic to Borneo.
You can also expect to see Crocodiles, Hawks, Eagles, Hornbills, Kingfishers and much more. if you are very lucky you may catch a glimpse of the newly discovered Bornean 'Pygmy' Elephant feeding on the edge of the Kinabatangan River. As well as the animals and bird life you can also spot many insects, reptiles and amphibians including snakes, frogs and stick insects.

Transfer to the Sandakan Rainforest Discovery Center for the one day program.
The Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) is the gateway to getting to know the uniqueness and importance of Borneo’s rainforests.
Situated 23 kilometres from Sandakan Town and not too far from the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre, the RDC’s main highlights are its exhibition halls, the Plant Discovery Garden, the Kapili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, environmental education programmes and a small lake for boat rides.
Day 6
Sandakan Rainforest Center
Kuching
Trasfer to Tawau and fly to Kuching to visit the Semenggoh Wildlife Center
Day 7
Established in 1975 to care for wild animals which have either been found injured in the forest, orphaned, or were previously kept as illegal pets. The centre is situated within the boundaries of the Semenggoh Nature Reserve, approximately 24 km from Kuching.
When established, the three main aims of the Centre were:To rehabilitate wild animals who have been injured,
orphaned in the wild or handicapped by prolonged captivity, with the objective of subsequently
releasing them back to the wild.To conduct research on wildlife and captive breeding
programmes for endangered species.To educate visitors and the general public about the
importance of conservation.
Day 7 - The Semenggoh Wildlife Centre

Annah Rais Longhouse – Annah Rais long house is well known for its
beautiful natural surroundings and the uniqueness of the life style of its villagers, the Bidayuh, one of the many ethnic groups found in Sarawak. For the travellers, there are a lot of things that you can learn and do while visiting. The very interesting thing that you all can do is visit all around the village and learn about the locals lifestyle.
Day 8
Kuching
Fly from Kuching to Kuala lumpur for Stop over The cultural hub of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is
visually defined by the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, which are the tallest twin buildings in the world and a vision of modern architecture.
On the flip side, the Sri Mahamariamman is the oldest Hindu temple in Malaysia, its façade a colorful totem pole of iconography.
Shopping at the Central Market is a joyful experience that involves haggling, handicrafts, and happiness.
Day 9
Fly from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland on Malaysian Airlines.
Day 10
Pack Light for this experience – one pack is recommended due to the amount of traveling we will be doing
