Off-roading may not be the sport of kings, but it’s a whole lot of fun for those of us who don’t
mind getting a little dirty. In fact, here at North Hollywood Toyota, we encourage buyers of
the new 2016 Toyota Tacoma to venture with their new rides off the beaten path. We don’t
give our trucks their legendary TRD Off-Road capabilities for nothing, after all.
So where should daredevils and other adventurous types
go for some off-roading fun in the LA area? Don’t worry,
we’ve got you covered. Read on to discover our list of the
best off-roading sites in and around Los Angeles.
Marian Campground, which sits
6,600 feet above sea level and
overlooks the central valley,
makes a great basecamp for a
weekend of off-roading. This
five-site remote campground
features ATV trails, 4x4
accessible lookouts with
beautiful views, and plenty of
open road and sparse pine
forests for driving. Marian
Campground is located off Mil
Potero Highway, to the west of
the Pine Mountain Club.
If sand is more your style, the Oceano Dunes SVRA offers 3,600 acres of open
dunes that are perfect for off-roading. Located just south of Pismo Beach, this
sandy expanse has open stretches that are perfect for beginners and experienced
off-roaders alike.
The Joshua Tree National Park isn’t just home to some of
California’s most stunning desert scenery – it’s also full of 4x4
trails and perfect off-roading spots for experienced drivers.
Given Joshua Tree’s remote location and sometimes difficult
terrain, it may not be a good starting place. But for the
experienced (and well provisioned), it’s off-roading heaven.
Straddling Los Angeles and
Ventura counties, Hungry
Valley offers a variety of
perfect off-roading terrain,
including sand washes and
steep climbs. Encompassing
nearly 130 miles of open
land near the Angeles and
Los Padres national forests,
off-roaders are sure to find
the challenges of their
choice somewhere in the
Hungry Valley.
Surrounding Big Bear
Lake is a plethora of
prime off-roading spots,
perfect for beginners and
advanced off-roaders. If
the forest trails aren’t
your style, the remote
campground at Big Pine
Flat offers a more
secluded and open spot
that’s just made for an
off-roading adventure.
Of course, before you go off-roading you need a vehicle that can handle the ride. The
2016 Toyota Tacoma is the most powerful and fuel efficient Tacoma ever made, and
features the legendary TRD Off-Road toughness that has made the Tacoma a favorite
among adventurous drivers.
