The Beauty of Little River Canyon
"There can be no greater issue than that of conservation in this
country."
Theodore Roosevelt
Established and made a unit of the National Park System on October 21, 1992.
The Little River Canyon area together with the whole of Lookout Mountain
(Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia) has long been recognized as an area with
important natural and cultural resources.
It is unique because it is the only river that forms and flows for almost all of its entire
length on the top of a mountain.
The sheer sandstone cliffs with the many overhangs offer a challenge to
experienced rock climbers.
Numerous small waterfalls and creeks dot the landscape along with massive
sandstone bluffs, large expanses of rocks, rapids and rock outcrops.
Little River FallsThe falls are beautiful anytime of the year.
