BThe Acoustic People
sonic excellence for acoustic, electric and bass
Preliminary
2
Across the world, acoustic instruments have come into focus. All kinds of instruments from traditional to modern, acoustic to electric can be enjoyed in solo or ensemble settings and within all musical styles. As little ‚plugged in‘ the ‚unplugged‘ may be authentic amplification is more important than ever! Every ins-trument deserves the chance to be evenly heard in its natural beauty. Since 1992 we at AER have never let go our passion for instruments, music, tone and that little bit extra we can put on top to push things further, perform better – we just love it.
Being regarded the reference class in acoustic am-plification (we received our 5th MIPA award for best acoustic amp in 2007) and with the many positive comments of you, thrilled and committed musicians, we have a lot of confidence and motivation to keep on going! It is to say ‚thank you‘ for your support and understanding and for staying with us even if things take a little longer.
There are many ways for us to explore still, to improve and get better. We do feel the road has not ended yet, thus we advance into other fields including musical instruments and accessories. We know little things can make a big difference and be sure if we can hear a dif-ference we will pass it on to you.
Besides this we will maintain what we are doing: deli-ver extraordinary solutions for musicians from the ins-trument to the loudspeaker. We are very serious about what we do, how we do it and where we do it – a lot of research, well thought out concepts, exquisite com-
ponents and materials, high manufacturing standards and quality control. We respect musical instruments, we care about you and your musical needs. You can talk to us and you will find that there are specialists close to you. AER products are no commodities. You will find them in qualified, serious and passionate stores for musical instruments in your country. People there are experienced to answer your questions and they provide the opportunity to help you to make up you mind. They are backed up by a network of excel-lent distributors who are responsible for AER in your country.
Be sure any issue will be dealt with quick, uncompli-cated and satisfying. If you ask us for recommendati-on… please understand, we can only partly do that! We always say what we believe in… besides that and the ‚fog‘ out there, there is no way around ‚ getting out there‘, evaluating yourself, with your instrument in your environment and talking to people that you trust… eye to eye. We do not want to spoil your ple-asure having come to a decision and enjoying it! If it is with AER… fantastic, if not… it is more than OK. It is your decision that counts!
This catalogue gives you an overview on the latest AER product range. Product is always subject to change wi-thout notice. Attached arabic numbers indicate major version changes (e. g. concept), small indexes indi-cate model updates effecting e. g. speakers, amps or effects.
We hope it helps a bit.

The Compact Classic pro is aimed at classical players and their instruments. Compared to the Compact 60, the Com-pact Classic benefi ts from an improved 2-way-speaker sys-tem, a more complex three band EQ with parametric bass and the 32bit AER digital eff ect processor with carefully desi-gned presets for classical instruments.
All the features combine perfectly to more allow for the fi ner tonal texture of a classical instrument throughout the full audio band. It enhances the low frequency response wit-hout increasing the feedback risk and creates beautiful ambi-ences that support the tone. Many pickup systems and their relevant combinations are used to match the instruments thus four pre-amp and two phantom-power options are pro-vided in an input matrix.

Musicians often asked us for a system for acoustic instru-ments that provides AER sound and quality everywhere… independent from the mains.
This is exactly what the Compact mobile has been develo-ped for. Based on the Compact 60, thus identical in sound, but with adapted technology and slightly changed dimen-sions you can play without the mains for three to four hours – whether you chose to play in the old town or on a glacier. The sound is clear and omnipresent.
Besides the features of the Compact 60, the Compact mobile 2 has got an AUX input which can be used to mix a battery-powered CD player to the sound.
In case of insuffi cient battery power the intelligent power control gives a warning and thus saves you from lack of po-wer during performance. Moreover it prevents the batteries from being completely exhausted.
Intelligent solutions for the demands of musicians.

The Domino 2 is the answer to musicians requests for more… more power, more volume, more channels to be more suitable for bigger venues!
Thus the Domino 2 consists of two 8”-twin-cone speakers, driven by two 60 watt amps. It is equipped with four channels (ch 3 and 4 use a combined EQ), the 32 bit AER digital eff ect processor with 16 presets addressable by individual sends per channel that delivers a variety of very suitable eff ects for voice and instruments.
Left and right out (2 x mono) in combination with the pre-mas-ter out allow direct use of additional active speaker systems (AS 281, Q8) to extend the Domino 2 to a small club PA.

This is where it all started and it is undoubtedly regarded the reference system for acoustic instruments and the best that we can do in a small box like this (3 MIPA awards) – the ultimate solution for a soloist.
For more than 16 years this little giant has set standards and we have done our best to push the limits further and further.
In its 3rd generation now we have implemented advanced dynamic control technology and have extended the dynamic range substantially. The new two-way speaker system is an in-credible improvement! It allows a much clearer and defi ned bass response and much lighter, more vivid reproduction of the complete range up to fi nest texture.
Cube 3 is a full two channel version now allowing identical features on both channels. It needed a face-lift for more opera-tional clarity and to allow additional important controls on the front panel.
In essence we have combined all the suggestions of Cube enthusiasts over the years with all our knowledge and experi-ence… without compromise… and we are more than pleased.

The BassCube 2 has proven to do an excellent job to reproduce double bass authentically.
Now, in its 2nd generation we have identifi ed a real coaxial speaker-system (12“ and a 1“ horn) that works extremely well in its very small bass-refl ex cabinet. It has lost some weight and is much clearer in its functions and features.
We have also implemented AER’s new advanced dynamic con-trol technology and have extended the dynamic range substan-tially. Driven by the new AER 550 W/8 ohm class d power amp the BassCube 2 has got the power to go down to the lowest frequencies in an eff ortless manner.
Well balanced analogue sound design covers the ranges gently and proportionate so that tone stays always clear, crisp and transparent yet powerful and defi ned without any stress!
Its two channels are equally equipped and allow two diff erent instruments set up in all comfort – and be sure it work very well for electric bass too.
Whether ‘arco’ or ‘pizzicato’ – the BassCube 2 sounds like your bass: round and open – you can hear the stroke of your bow as true to life as the placing of your fi ngers on the fi ngerboard.

The Basic Performer is a solution for Bass and instruments of the lower registers based on the experience of multiplying well proven AER acoustic systems.
Regardless of scale lengths, body sizes and resonance problems just to name some trouble zones of acoustic bass instruments – they require the same approach and care to reproduce well balanced and clear registers.
A small twin-cone system seems perfect – it is fast, provides a superior coverage for the critical mid-range and has got enough substance in the bass range. So in the Basic Performer four 8“-twin-cone speakers, individually powered by four 60 watt power amps provide for the required surface area and the ne-cessary sound pressure level.
The AER band-pass/bass-refl ex cabinet design supports the reproduction of even the lowest frequencies with defi nition. Hi-end preamps, proper fi lters and additional professional sound design make the Basic Performer a multitalented all-round solution.
The sound characteristics are full range thus open and light yet breathing as well as grumbling and surprisingly appropriate for far more instruments than the bass-related instruments such as harp, cello, accordion…
or even try a jazz guitar!

A 12“ neodymium woo-fer for quick and full bass response combined with a 4“ mid-high direct radiating speaker for gentle trebles allows a wider range of sounds from funk to pop, rock and jazz.
In further diff erence to the Amp one the signal path is lead trough adjustable compression pre EQ- to provide even more dynamic headroom.
14
With all the experience in acoustics, dynamic control and sound design AER reaches out into the fi eld of professional bass amplifi cation and launches the AER Bottom Line series.
The concept: a small, light-weight two channel class d integ-rated amplifi er that covers the range from Anglo-saxon ‘punch’ to european ‘hifi ’ orientated sounds. Head one can be used in three operational modes: 2 channel full-range mode, 2-way-active mode and bridge-mode in combination with Cab one, Cab two or Cab three. It is equipped with ‘tube emulation’ for ‘drive’ sounds, two independent EQs, ‘colour-switch’ and ‘tone le-ver’. Class d amps are getting more popular as besides effi ciency they can be made so surprisingly small and light. Besides these benefi ts they inherit a lot of problems (noise, distortion, cut-off ) especially if they are used in ‘limit mode’. Their overall perfor-mance is extremely depending on the design and the smart use of controls and protections to guarantee proper functionality. We have done a lot to make that happen!

Design features, besides effi ciency, light in weight, small in size, reproduction of a truthfull tone, have mainly been fast attack time, low distortion and high power handling. All of this is ext-remely demanding and requires a lot of attention to all detail.
Cab one is a two way full range loudspeaker system. To extend the bass range we decided to apply two 10“ speakers in push-pull mode. This allows smaller cabinet size keeping the low cut-off frequency and thus allows more low end besides performing with less distortion.
Instead of a horn or tweeter whose ‘harshness’ we are not re-ally friends with we relied on the performance of the AER 8“ twin cone extended range chassis to cover the mid and high frequency range.

Cab two is a 15“, Cab three a 12“ neodym bass refl ex loud-speaker-system. Both work stand alone with Head one. Cab two in addition is the perfect match to work in conjunction with Cab one as full stack.
Besides many other design concepts bass refl ex still is a very valid compromise that provides extended bass range in a re-latively small cabinet with reasonable step response.
The cabinets are all made with extreme care, rock-solid components and a lot of additional bracing to keep the level of static noise as low as possible.

AS Q8 is a small full-range 2-way active system in bandpass / bassrefl ex construction.
The concept behind the construction is to have a small sound system, tonally well balanced with excellent speech intelligi-bility, suffi cient bass yet quick in response. A combination of bass refl ex and band-pass supports the low ranges. Four power amplifi ers driving four extended range 8“ loudspeakers and a dome-tweeter, are hidden within this simple looking full-range system.
This quick, direct and authentic system is particularly suitable for near-fi eld PA.

Self-powered 2-way mid-high systemsThe design concepts of AS 360/D and AS 550/D are correspon-ding: direct radiating coaxial self-powered systems in small bass-refl ex enclosures. They are mutually capable to handle multiple applications e.g speech, delay-line or near-fi eld PA where no sub bass is required.
Their components are matched, optimised for maximum effi ci-ency and tuned for superb sound reproduction.
Through the use of integrated class d amplifi ers and switch mode power supplies we can keep size and weight surprisingly low however electronically well oversized they allow maximum dynamic range.
