CHARLOTTE COUNTY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
"HOOKED ON HABITAT" IS A REEL WINNER!By:EllenCardillo
The 6th Annual "Hooked on Habitat" Redfish Tournament reeled in anglers from Tampa to Naples with 42 boats and over 120 anglers participating. This event is supported by many businesses including Ingman Marine as the named sponsor. Our sponsors provided the anglers with a great day of fishing and an opportunity to win more than $5,000 in prizes! After a delicious seafood Captains Dinner on Friday night provided by Peace River Seafood, the anglers left Laishley Marina early Saturday morning to fish for a good cause. The generosity of sponsors, partners, volunteers, anglers and donors helped Charlotte County Habitat raise over $20,000 for their mission of helping local families in need of safe, decent, affordable homes! Tony Cissell, a Habitat partner family, helped serve food and set up the event in an effort to earn his "sweat equity" hours required of partner families approved for home ownership. Facing enormous medical bills, Tony could see himself falling further and further behind. Habitat offered him hope and a home. Jay Gordon, Board President for Charlotte County Habitat, stated, "These events give meaning to what we do. The people are so full of gratitude, theres so much emotion. It changes their lives." Thank you to all that participated.
AUGUST 2014
CHARLOTTE COUNTY FEMALES GRAB YOUR TOOLS!Thanks to the participation of local women during our successful Women Build 2014 project, Kirsten and her two daughters are living in their safe, affordable Charlotte County home. Were ready to do it again! Women Build 2015 is on our schedule to begin during March, 2015, but the project cant be a success without your support.
Groups and individual women raised funds and hammers during our Women Build 2014 project. Fundraising efforts included quarter auctions, garage sales, quilt raffles and more. Participants wore their pink shirts while building interior walls, raising trusses, and painting. By Mothers Day 2014 the new homeowner and her daughters were enjoying their new home.
We hope your muscles have recovered, your fundraising ideas are flowing and youll join us for Women Build 2015! An information meeting will be held in the Fall, but you dont have to wait. Call Jan Nick at 639-3162 to get more information. Wed DEFINITELY rather BUILD IT THAN CLEAN IT!
