FOURSQUARE MISSIONS
UPDATEStories and News From Around the World
Foursquare Around the World Check in on what a few of our
Foursquare missionaries are
doing around the world.
Mexico Mexico missionaries Robert
and Joanne Bainbridge, and
Bill and Ginger Hoeben have
been assisting with the clean-
up following the Mexicali
earthquakes. In addition to
repairing churches that
suffered damage, the local
Foursquare church is getting
money to locals in need.
Poland Women of Vision was held in
the mountains of Poland in
May, just south of Nowy Targ,
where missionary Denise
Johnson serves. Denise
reported that the women were
encouraged as they received
the message of freedom.
She asks for prayer for these
women, that they would
live fully transformed lives.
South Africa Missionary Jenna Javens is
teaching the No Apologies
curriculum (a character-based
abstinence program by Focus
on the Family) in the public
schools of Botswana, South
Africa. This is a ministry of the
Mochudi Foursquare Church.
United States Foursquare Missionary John
Rusk traveled from Angelus
Temple in Los Angeles to
Connection 2010 in Atlanta
on his motorcycle to raise
awareness and excitement
for missions. Making
several stops at ministries and
churches along the way, he
was joined on the road by NBA
player Jake Voskuhl, as well
as a film crew, to capture the
adventure. Videos from their
cross-country ride can
be found at maniac4missions.

FOCUS:
Thailand, often dubbed the Land of Smiles, is also known for its human trafficking and spiritual darkness. But Foursquare missionaries here are watching God set people free.
THAILAND

Kathy Alexander serves as a missionary for Foursquare
Missions International in Sierra Leone, a nation of 5.2
million that is still recovering from a bitter civil war (1991-
2002) that resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and
the displacement of about one-third of the population.
Foursquare has seven churches and three additional cell
groups in the country, as well as three primary schools,
one secondary school and one Bible school. Kathy
resides in Freetown, the major port city and capital.
FOURSQUARE LEADER Tell us about your Bible classes
for nationals.
KATHY Because we are in the beginning stages of church
development, we have a need to develop future leaders.
One way of accelerating this process is by providing Bi-
ble classes for nationals. I get really excited, because the
truth of God’s Word destroys the lies that are present
within every culture and sets people free.
FOURSQUARE LEADER What results have you seen
from short-term missions teams?
KATHY Teams have come from Oregon, California and
Maryland. In 2009, we hosted five teams. A team from
Valley Christian Center in Albany, Ore., hosted a basic
medical clinic that included counseling and prayer for
a community located on Juba Hill in western Freetown.
The result of the partnership was the birth of a new, thriv-
ing Foursquare church located in the center of the Juba
community.
FOURSQUARE LEADER What do you wish people in the
U.S. knew about ministering to people in Sierra Leone?
KATHY I wish people knew how ripe and responsive the
country is to the gospel, and how effective development
projects are in sharing the gospel with people when they
are first initiated by the local church or community.

Thailand, with its lush hills, fertile valleys and
undisturbed forests, is often called the Land
of Smiles. The spiritual need is great in this
nation, however, which boasts a population of
more than 65 million. The majority of people
are Buddhist—almost 95 percent. Most of
the remaining are Muslim, at 4.6 percent.
Less than 1 percent describe themselves as
Christian.
“The spiritual warfare is subtle but very
strong,” says Neill Gilbert, FMI missionary
to Thailand. Neill and his wife, Diana, have
been serving in Thailand since 2004. They are
based in Mae Sot, a major trade hub on the
western side of the nation, a gateway known
for business dealings on a grand scale, both
good and bad. Yes, gems and other items
of value exchange hands here—but so do
drugs, and people. The city, with a substantial
population of refugees, is a den of human
trafficking.
The Foursquare Church is permeating this
quagmire of human need, however, and
seeing God change lives. Kelly Hilderbrand,
senior Foursquare missionary in Thailand,
is excited about the many miraculous things
God is doing in the nation.
“We have a lot of ministry throughout the
country,” he notes, “including six homes for
orphans, a home for women rescued from
human trafficking, a ministry to slum children,
a college ministry … those are just a few of
the things we are doing. We have children’s
ministry, a ministry center in Bangkok, and a
ministry to help churches start businesses to
become self-supporting.”
