Social Justice News
We are so proud to support Chiara Avery (Year 1) who has
been growing her hair for the past year in support of the Big
Shave for Cancer.
She is donating her
beautiful hair so that
it can be made in to a
wig for someone who
has lost their hair due
to treatment for
cancer. Along the
way Chiara has also
been raising money
for Cancer Council
Victoria through her Everyday Hero account. The money that
she raises from this account goes to Cancer Council Victoria
and contributes to the purchase of wigs for those who can't
afford to buy one.
Corpus Christi School has made a donation of $405.30 which
has been made possible through the very generous support of
our Social Justice Soup Kitchen and money that has been
donated through class Social Justice donation boxes.
Chiara is having her hair cut this Saturday, 26th November. If
you would like to make a donation to support Chiara you will
find the link to her Everyday Hero account on our Facebook
page.
Good luck for Saturday Chiara and we look forward to seeing
your new hairstyle next week!

Prayer for the First Week of Advent Lord God,
only you can see into my heart and know that under all the busy-ness of my life,
there is a deep longing to make this Advent one that welcomes you
more deeply into my own life. My heart desires the warmth of your love
and my mind searches for your Light in the midst of the darkness.
Help me to be a peacemaker this Advent and to give special love to those
who disagree with me. Give me the strength and courage to forgive those who have hurt me.
Help me to free my heart from the prison of my anger and hurt.
Term 4 Week 5 3rd November 2016
Term 4 Week 6 9th November 2016
Term 4 Week 8 23rd November 2016
The Advent season is a time where we celebrate anticipating the coming of Christmas. That’s actually what
Advent means, it means “coming” or “arrival” particularly of something extremely important.
On the First Sunday in Advent Jesus explains that no one knows the time of the Second Coming, therefore we
should always be prepared.
On the Second Sunday in Advent John the Baptist preaches repentance to prepare for the coming of the Lord.
The Third Sunday in Advent sees John explain that he is not the Messiah.
On the Fourth Sunday in Advent Gabriel explains to Mary that even though she is a virgin, she will give birth
to the Son of God.
As a school community we will celebrate the Advent season through a series of Paraliturgies in our Community
Hall on the following dates:
Monday 28th November: Advent Paraliturgy (Week 1)
9:00am - Year Prep to host
Monday 5th December: Advent Paraliturgy (Week 2)
9:00am - Year 3/4Z
Monday 12th December: Advent Paraliturgy (Week 3)
9:00am - Year 3/4C to host
Friday16th December: Advent Paraliturgy (Week 4)
12:15pm – Year 3/4S to host
All families are welcome to attend. The liturgies will be followed by our Assembly.

Monday evening at 7:00pm. During this meeting we
will be organizing our Christmas Raffle and End of
Year School Picnic/Celebration. If you are

Fees and Levies
Thank you so much to all families who have
finalized payments of school fees and levies for
2016. As per our Fee and Levy Policy, accounts are
required to be settled by the end of Term 3 each year. To date we still have $8130.00 in overdue accounts. These
need to be settled immediately.
Library News
Next week the children in Years Prep to 4 will have their final Library classes for the year. Please remind your
children to return their library books next week. All library bags need to be washed and returned to your child’s
current class teacher who will store the bags ready for next year. Some children in Years 5 and 6 also have
books that need to be returned next week.
Lost Property
We have a large number of unclaimed items in our lost property box. In fact, it is overflowing. Could we ask
families to check for missing items and collect them if needed.
All items remaining unclaimed by the end of this week will be sent to our second hand uniform shop.
Community Conversations
In the past, we have offered a number of Parent Information Sessions/Forums as part of our Making Learning
Visible: Parent Partnership Program which have been focused on areas highlighted in our School Improvement
Framework. These have been positively received by families who took up the invitation but have generally not
been well attended. As we continue to foster parent engagement we are calling for ideas as to the areas you are
interested in and which you would find as beneficial. Some suggestions already received from general
conversation include: Developing Resilient Children, Parenting Today and Learning and Teaching in the 21st
Century.
If you have an idea or topic you would see as beneficial to explore as a school community, we would love to
hear from you. Just fill out the attached reply slip and return it to the office by Friday 2nd December.
School Improvement Framework
As is done every year, as a staff we have spent the last few weeks analyzing a range of ‘school performance
data’ to determine our effectiveness as educators and as an organization. Formal standardized Data sources:
Insight SRC Parent, Student and Staff Survey Data, NAPLAN Data, Literacy Advance Data, SINE (Numeracy)
data; have been combined with school based assessment data to measure our performance over the course of
the year and to set goals for 2017.
In the past we have offered the opportunity for parent to engage in conversation around school performance yet
due to the busyness of this time of the year these forums have not been well attended. So, I thought I would use
the Newsletter (since I know you all read it) to briefly present our successes and highlight areas of opportunity
moving forward. All of this will be presented in great detail in our Annual Report to the Community which is
published in May each year (by the way, our Annual report for 2015 can be accessed via our website and is ‘a
good read’ if you are looking for something a little different to peruse).
So let’s begin…
As an educational organization, Insight SRC data places Corpus Christi School well within the top 25% of
Australian Schools for all 18 Performance and Development lead indicators which are grouped under the
domains of: Professional Culture, Leadership, Student Outcomes, Professional Knowledge and Practice and
Performance and Development. Curriculum Processes and School Improvement Focus sit at the 90th and 96th
percentile respectively when compared to all Australian Schools. This data confirms that our school is a high
performing school as higher levels of performance and development are linked directly to improved student
learning, engagement and wellbeing outcomes.
The Insight SRC Parent Opinion Survey illustrates that parents believe that staff are very passionate about their
work and deliver classes which are interesting and enjoyable for their child. They are also confident that
classroom management (behaviour) is promoting their child’s learning. Parents identified the areas of Parent
Partnerships, Transition, Homework, Behaviour management, Stimulating Learning, Teacher Morale, Child
Connectedness to School and Student Motivation as key strengths all placed in the top 25% of Australian
Schools.
Insight SRC Student responses (Years 3-6) pattern data indicates that students feel well understood by their
teachers and that their learning environments are conducive to good learning. NAPLAN Mean Growth data
(Year 3 - Year 5) for Reading, Writing and Numeracy sits well above State mean for the same performance
outcomes. See table below
Reading Writing Numeracy
2014 2016 Difference/
Growth 2014 2016 Difference/
Growth 2014 2016 Difference/
Growth
Corpus Christi School (Mean) 422 528 106 434 491 85 407 533 126
State (Mean) 433 512 79 417 519 74 415 504 89
Longitudinal data indicates that over a 2-year period the average (State) growth based upon National Scaled
Scores sits around 78 points. This 78-point growth has generally become the ‘expected’ targeted growth over
the period Year 3 –Year 5. As you can see from the data, our school is consistently outperforming the ‘state’
by some margin. For those of you who have explored the ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and
Reporting Authority) My School Website you will see that this is a recurring trend.
Literacy Advance Reading Text Level Data in our junior years is also well above expected levels (see below).
Year Prep Minimum Level: 1
100%
Target level: 5
83%
Level 10 or above
63%
Level 15 or above
43%
These performance results sit well above (and have consistently done so over time) that of ‘like’ schools and
affirms school based data sources.
From a School Improvement perspective, we should be extremely proud of these achievements over the course
of the year (and over time) as these key performance indicators are extremely high. It’s important that we take
the time to acknowledge the work of staff for creating such a positive climate for children to learn and to
celebrate with children in their successes.
As with all performance appraisal, it’s also important to take a look at what has been highlighted as areas of
opportunities moving forward. Insight SRC Pattern Survey data highlights that while our students believe their
classroom ‘behaviour’ promotes good learning opportunities they do recognise that they need to further develop
skills in relationship building. Parent Survey data aligns with student data in that while our parents believe
children behave well in the classroom and they are being taught (and are developing) appropriate social skills,
they also believe that children may not always be transferring this knowledge when working/playing with others
in general. Parent data also suggests there is a misalignment between the school’s procedures/processes for
supporting student behaviour and their current understanding. These areas will be become priority in our 2017
School Improvement Framework Action Plan.
I hope this all makes sense and am happy to elaborate on any of
this data at any stage and would welcome the opportunity to
engage in conversation with you.
Have a wonderful week
God Bless
Anthony Hyde

Year 3/4 Wellbeing News
In Wellbeing, students in Year 3/4S have been exploring the key area of Social Decision Making. It has enabled us to demonstrate the use of choices and consequences when selecting actions to take, in response bullying situations. Together, we have explored and plan strategies to effectively respond to bullying situations in a safe way. Here are a few comments from students from Year 3/4S on what they have learnt: “I understand that there are consequences to my choices and actions. I feel comfortable speaking out and standing up for myself if someone isn’t treating me fairly, or a peer”. (Molly Brooks) “I understand that when people get bullied it can have lasting effects on their self-esteem. I make sure that my choices won’t affect anyone else in a negative way” (Sienna Malkoun). “If I am ever bullied I know there are many positive choices which I can respond, including standing up for myself, walking away or telling a teacher or parent”. (Mark Cuni) “It is important to always consider the consequences to your choices and take responsibility for your own actions”. (Mia Lowe)
