Pre-Level Assessments
MYC follows the Australian Levels Program. This program covers the requirements for
Level 1-10.
At MYC we use a bronze, silver, gold system as a way to monitor our pre-level gymnasts’
progression towards Level 1 and to recognise their achievements along the way.
Each term a progress certificate is given out to each gymnast to show how they are pro-
gressing towards their next certificate. Each skill is listed and marked as “beginning”
work on this skill, “developing” the skill or “competent” if the skill has been achieved.
Upon completing the Gold certificate the gymnast is then ready to prepare for a Level
Upgrade.
If a gymnast is away for an assessment then they will simply be assessed the following
term. As there are so many pre-level groups to be assessed each term, individual assess-
ments will not be re-scheduled. The pre-level groups are monitored and changed fre-
quently as individual gymnasts will progress at different rates through different stages of
development. Parents should not be concerned if their child’s group has changed from
the previous week or following an assessment. All pre-level enquiries are handled by the
Head Coach so if you do have any questions they should be emailed to Kerry
Leadership Camp
Last month MYC sponsored 4 gymnasts to attend the Game Changers Leadership Pro-
gram organised by the Rye, Dromana, and Rosebud Community Bank. With the pur-
pose being to help to create an opportunity to develop leadership capabilities of
young leaders in grassroots sporting clubs.
This was the second year that MYC has sent young leaders to this program and each
participant enjoyed the experience thoroughly.
“One of the best things that I am taking away from this camp is values that are im-
portant to me in life. I was pushed to my limit on this camp in almost every way possible,
whether it be physical, mental, or even emotional.” Isla
“I learnt how to adapt my leadership styles to everyday life and I know how to effec-
tively work in a team for the best outcome that suits us all.” Ella
“I met so many amazing people and heaps of young inspirational leaders. I will definite-
ly use the skills that I have learned in my coaching, training and everyday life.” Saman-
tha
I have learnt loads of new and insightful skills that will allow me to grow as a leader and
a person in general. I will use every skill and lesson this camp has provided me for the
rest of my life. Taya
Kindergym gymnasts transferring to Beginners
in 2019
Any gymnasts wishing to move from Kindergym into Beginners (2019 Prep
Students) will need to put their names down on a waiting list. This process is
normally started towards the end of the year, however we will be starting
earlier this year.
The order of the waiting list for Beginners in 2019 will be dependant on how
long the gymnast has been a registered member at MYC.
If you have any questions about this process please refer to the Enquiry Di-
rectory for contact details.

A Few Important Child Safety
Reminders
A reminder also, that MYC has a 10 minute late policy
that applies to all classes. Gymnasts arriving later than
10 minutes after the start of class time will not be per-
mitted to participate. We appreciate that sometimes
unusual circumstances arise and if you are running late,
please phone the office so that the coaches can be
notified.
Parents must ensure that all children are collected from
inside MYC Gymnastics’ foyer or waiting area
(MP2). Children are not permitted to meet their parents
in the cafeteria area or the carpark. If you are running
late to collect your child please notify the office.
A reminder that parents are not permitted into the
Gymnastics area at any time (except as required dur-
ing KinderGym classes). ALL communication must be
directed to the office and if necessary a coach or your
child can be brought out of the gym.
Head Coach Report
We are now well into Term 3, hopefully we have seen the last of the winter weather!
The school holidays saw many of our coaches participate in an Inclusion Workshop
run by Gymnastics Victoria and we also had committee representatives attend the
Leading Clubs Conference at the start of term with other clubs from around Austral-
ia.
Obviously, our most significant news item so far this term has been the building dam-
age caused by the wind early in the term. We were lucky to have council act so
quickly in repairing the damage and thank everyone for their cooperation during
the disruption. We would also like to thank Diamond Gymnastics Club for facilitating
a training session for our Level 5 & 6 girls who had a competition that weekend.
This term sees the Junior WAG (Level 2-6) and MAG (Level 2-4) competition season
underway which means busy weekends for many of our gymnasts, coaches, judges
and of course the parents!! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and
coaches who have dedicated the time to train as judges and enable our teams to
continue to attend competitions.
MYC will also attend the National Clubs competition on the Gold Coast at the end
of this term with Level 5-10 teams attending from our WAG Squad Program. Raffle
tickets are currently on sale to fundraise for this trip.

Lost Property
There is an ever growing pile of
lost property including clothing
and drink bottles.
If you have noticed any items
missing lately, please check the
collection in Meeting Room 2.
IMPORTANT COMPETITION INFORMATION
Term 3 sees the start of the Junior WAG (L3-6) and MAG (L2-4) competition season.
Here are a few reminders for parents and competing gymnasts.
Gymnasts must arrive 15 minutes before the start of warm-up time.
Once arrived at the venue, shoes are to be left with parents and gymnasts find
their coach. Gymnasts are only permitted on the floor if the coach is present.
Gymnasts will not be permitted to compete if they arrive after the general warm-
up. In the event a gymnast is late (but still within the general warm-up time), the
gymnast must go directly to their coach. REMEMBER THAT NO PARENTS ARE AL-
LOWED ON THE COMPETITION FLOOR.
Gymnasts must wear competition leotard with scrunchie, club tracksuit, white
socks and runners. No ugg boots, thongs, etc. are to be worn to a competition.
Bring a drink bottle and healthy snack in MYC bag and grips if worn.
Hair must be tied back neatly; it must not fall out during the competition and no
hair is allowed to be in the gymnast’s face.
No jewellery is to be worn, stud earrings are acceptable
NO CONTACT BETWEEN SPECTATORS AND GYMNASTS IS ALLOWED ONCE WARM-
UP HAS COMMENCED (this includes hand signals and verbal communication). Fail-
ure to follow this may result in the gymnasts and team being disqualified from the
competition!
Flash photography is not permitted during gymnastics events.
Please make sure your mobile phones are on silent.
Competition entries are received by host clubs usually with a closing date about 1
month prior to the event. Work orders are therefore, usually received by clubs only 2-3
weeks prior to the event. Only at this time will we know the exact day and time each
gymnasts competes.
Gymnastics Victoria’s Athlete of the Month
Isla Russell
Isla is a gymnast from MYC Gymnastics who has been nominated for Athlete of the Month
after demonstrating fantastic leadership skills at the Border Challenge last month. Isla at-
tended the Border Challenge competition as part of the State Team for Level 9.
Isla was an outstanding leader of the group whose behaviour, sportsmanship, team spirit
and overall leadership was second to none. All of the athletes looked up to her through-
out the trip and she was an absolute delight to have as one of the senior athletes. She al-
so helped the Level 9 team secure the Silver Medal, a great result!
As well as being a fantastic gymnast, Isla is also a phenomenal role model for younger
gymnasts and an inspiration to all of the Border Challenge Team.
Isla’s positive attitude and leadership skills make her the perfect Gymnastics Victoria Ath-
lete of the Month!
