Dear Parents, Guardians and Students
Foundation (Preps) ‘100’ Days of School Celebrations: today our Foundation students celebrated their 100 days of school. They came
dressed up; some as old people, some wearing creative t-shirts. All their
teachers dressed up, too; there was even Mr Joyce as ‘101 Dalmatians’. Their
rooms were highly decorated full of balloons. They made 100 and 1000s
sandwiches and undertook a range of mathematics, craft and literacy activities
to celebrate ‘100’. Mrs Madder and I enjoyed visiting and celebrating with
them.
New Netball Court and Cricket Pitches for OPS: I am delighted to
announce that Buildings and Grounds and School Council have approved a
quote to for a proposal for a new Netball Court: Council has been eager to see
this happen for some time now. Mr Bill Mallinson and a number of B&G
members met with Ben Turner to look at possible placement and options
available to us using an artificial turf specifically designed for this purpose.
This will be much kinder on trips an d falls during games than asphalt and
significantly cheaper. While some of our community’s fundraising directly
support ICT leases and other curriculum resources, School Council has
supported the use of funds raised through this year’s fair and some parent club
fund raising to be used to offset the cost along with school funds. The plans
include a slight repositioning of our Australian Rules football goals. As well
as this, B&G in conjunction with Evan Lukas, our PE teacher, have
recommended the installation of two cricket pitches to be placed in that area.
The plans for these ensure that they do not interfere with other play on the
oval and will provide for our growing cliental. We expect the work on cricket
pitches to begin this week and the larger works over the next school holidays.

Attendance Letters: Thank you to those parents
who have returned my letters requesting reasons
for unexplained absence. While we do appreciate
that you may have notified the school office or
teacher previously in relation to these absences;
however, it is possible that we may have
inadvertently missed this. Unexplained absences
need to be investigated. Attendance at school is a
parent responsibility. Department guideless state:
“Parents are required to ensure their child attends
school and to provide an explanation for their
child's absence from school, and the principal must
record in writing the reason (if any) given by the
parent”. If you have already received a letter
from me and have not returned it as yet, could you
please attend to this as soon as possible? I still
have more letters to complete and hope to have
these to you by the end of this week. Thank you
for your support and understanding in this matter.
Allergies at School: A number of our students
have allergies to a variety of foods or environment;
some mild but some students are diagnosed with
severe allergies that may cause anaphylaxis. We
respond to their needs in a variety of ways to
minimise risks. Our students eat inside or are
limited to the eating area just behind the TLC each
day; staff are trained in anaphylaxis every three
years by a specific trainer and annually undertake
an online update; while we are not a “nut free” or
similar school, we strongly discourage students
sharing food with each other and teachers are fully
aware of any student at risk in their class and
accommodate their needs accordingly. Medical
plans are displayed in the sick bay and are housed
in each office. Should you have any concerns
regarding your child, please do not hesitate to
contact your child’s teacher or the school office for
assistance.
Kind Regards,
Julie Gleeson,
Principal.

Our Healthy Foods Parent Forum is coming up next week.
Please come along and join us for this presentation and
discussion on what a healthy diet means for your child and
their education. We will begin at 6.30pm. At this stage,
we are planning to hold the session in the Year 6 area.
At Education subcommittee last week, a new policy was
presented and reviewed. The development of a Child Safe
Environments policy is mandatory for all early childhood
services, and is designed to ensure that we create a culture
of child safety and that we protect children from all forms
of abuse. This policy has now been ratified by School
Council, and is on our website for your information.
Parent Opinion surveys are due back at school by
tomorrow. Thank you to all those who have already
completed and returned this survey. A chocolate frog still
waits for those who bring theirs back by tomorrow!
Mrs Champion is busy getting organised for our Sausage
Sizzle Day tomorrow. I hope the children all enjoy their
sausages, and that they say a big ‘Thank You’ to Mrs
Champion, in recognition of all the work she has put into
the day.
Our term 3 head lice checks will be undertaken beginning
next Thursday. The nurses will return again for a
follow-up visit on Friday 12th August. If you would like
any advice on how to check or treat this condition, please
don’t hesitate to contact me and I can make a time for you
to meet with Tracey, who will happily pass on information
and useful tips.
Important reminders for AUGUST have been sent home
today. This blue notice has been given to the youngest
member of each family. Please refer to this for all of our
upcoming events. A copy will also be posted on tiqbiz.
As mentioned last week, there are a group of 10 students
currently at Mount Buller with Miss Higgins, enjoying
lots of snow and skiing. They return late tomorrow
evening.
2nd instalment for Yr 5 camp is due tomorrow.
Have a great weekend everyone,

Extend OSHC at Overport Primary School
Last week was a great week.
The children and staff had a great time work-
ing on our first of 4 display boards. The first
one we completed was our 'Sea Extend' dis-
play. It started off as not much to look at but
now it looks fantastic. The children let
their creative side go to the depths of the
ocean to come up with all things that you
would find in the ocean. We have 3 more
display boards to fill with amazing creations
by the children.
