I love Mother’s Day. It is a day set aside for me where my 3 children make me feel extra special and shower me with gifts, and well…. just to show how much they appreciate me and all I have done for them over the years. I get a chance to sit back (with a nice wine) and enjoy the day while they prepare the meal and provide the entertainment for the afternoon. I love this family time. My children have all grown up and no longer live at home and so these times are very precious and special. (To all you young mums out there, word of advice -…… one day your children are babies and then school children and ‘in the blink of the eye’ they are all grown up and no longer living at home with you! Trust me, it flies! Treasure and enjoy these precious young years.) I am not at all the perfect mum. There are no perfect mums, no perfect kids and no perfect homes. Perfection does not exist, however, we often waste a lot of time and energy pursuing that perfection. And in that pursuing we miss out on the most precious parts of life… the laughter of silliness, the joy of spontaneity, the lessons found in failure and the freedom found in grace.
The imperfect parts of our lives are counterbalanced with a Perfect God who longs to shine His light through the cracks in our lives. God is changing, molding, perfecting us to be more like Jesus every day.
Mum’s …. give ourselves the gift of grace to make mistakes. Let’s give ourselves the gift of realistic expectations and let’s give ourselves the gift of honesty about the good and the hard.
I began with saying I love Mother’s Day, but truthfully, it also holds much sadness for me. My mum passed away exactly 30 years ago this year. She never saw my children and my children have never known their Grandma. Not a day passes without a thought or memory of my mum. And so although my children have not known my mum, they have really, because my mum lives on through me. I thank God everyday for my mum and all she taught me to be. And…. ‘that we can’t be perfect mums, but we are the perfect mums for our kids’. By Karen Bampton
Term 2 week ending 19 May 2017
Two really significant celebrations over
the past fortnight. On Sunday the 7th we
celebrated the Foundation of Lobethal
175 years ago, we reflected upon not
only the impact of both our school and church since but
also the difficulties that they had to endure. It was
wonderful to have our church school campus host not
only our current community but also returning families
and dignitaries. I was incredibly proud of the sea of
maroon that was intertwined amongst the events.
Thankyou to all parents who allowed their children to
participate. It was an incredibly special day. Last we also
celebrated National Lutheran Schools week where we
acknowledged that we are part of a system of 83
schools. On page 11 of last week’s Courier we celebrated being part of something bigger by taking
out a joint advertisement with our friends at Open Arms, St Michael’s Hahndorf, St Mark’s Mount
Barker and Cornerstone to celebrate our network of schools in the Adelaide Hills. The following is in
our prospectus, authored by my past colleague Steve Gollasch from Portland. It still to me is one of
the best things I have read about Lutheran Schools.
‘ Being part of a Lutheran School means being part of a giant family. Over 40, 000 Aussie kids are in
Lutheran Schools- 83 schools all up. As a staff member I know I can travel to any state or territory and
find ‘family’- people I know, people who really care about kids. This family is ‘visionary’- we see an
Australia full of people who are educated, thoughtful, tolerant, loving, faithful and humble, and
together we walk towards that’
This is how we feel about what we do…like families we have our disagreements from time to time but
we all want the same things for our community. I thank all of you for being a part of our family here
at LLS be you people who have joined us just recently or have a link to Foundational families from
175 years ago. Our Mother’s Day High Tea was also a wonderful celebration. A quick scan of the
facebook photos of the day revealed a sea of happy smiles and wonderful moments.
Staffing News
We are blessed with a wonderful stable staff who have honoured this place with wonderful service.
One of the things that is important to do as Principal is to ensure that staff are supported in being the
best that they can be. This extends to protecting their entitlements to leave. Next term Chris
Ruediger will be enjoying a term of well deserved long service leave. We are in the process of
finding the best fit for that class so that Term 3 is another successful term for our middle primary
group.
Welcome to
This week we welcome Aaron Kirlew (Year 1) into Abbie’s class. It is fantastic to
have him, sister Jazintah, Jemma and Jeremy join us here at LLS.
Thursdays are also incredibly enjoyable days. The playgroup down in the basement has at its core
some younger families who will be joining us in future years. Another great thing is that the Open
Arms Community Childcare Kindy program is based with us every Thursday. While this is only a small
group we enjoy having Joshua, Jackson, Imogen, Leo and Alby with us and the way they interact
with our older students. It’s great to have an extended family here on our church-school campus.
Coming up
A number of key events coming up in future weeks now that the NAPLAN train has passed through.
There will be more information to come in future weeks on some of these.
Friday May 19- Interschool Cross Country at Woodside. This event will feature middle-senior students
selected on the basis of their performance on our school Cross Country this week.
Friday May 26- Student leaders day at Good Shepherd Angaston. I am looking forward to to taking our
school captains to this day giving them an opportunity to mix with leaders from other Lutheran Schools
June 2 and June 15- Senior students will be participating in days at Cornerstone and Faith to connect
with wider Lutheran communities
Monday June 5- This is the rescheduled date for our Class Carers family party. It is hoped that this is a
night that has a few less clashes.
End of term June 30: As communicated earlier in the year we will be concluding our term one week
earlier than the past. In 2017 Adelaide is holding a National Conference on Lutheran Education which is
held every 4 years. Local Lutheran schools have been asked to align their term times with bigger
Lutheran Schools to support an opportunity for all of our staff members to connect and work together.
As a result all terms will now begin on the first Monday of term rather than the Tuesday. If this presents
any issues at all please chat to me and we will look for ways that we can assist.
Thankyou again for being a member of our LLS family.

NEXT PFA Meeting - All welcome
Wednesday May 24th 2:30pm at the School
Wow! What a day! We were blessed with fantastic
weather and really enjoyed the challenge of the
courses. Steep Hills, open bush and creek crossings
were all negotiated successfully by our team of 23
students who competed with a sense of fun and
fair play. I was really proud of the persistence
students showed in locating all control points, in
order, no matter the time. Most pairs finished in the
top ten. Congratulations to Ashlee Tucker and
Mackenzie Hocking who finished 5th in their pairs
age group. Special congratulations to Samuel
Morley who finished first in his age group as a solo
and to Josh Bevan and Thomas Small who finished
1st in their pairs age group. Well done everyone!
Meredith Muster
Congratulations to our Year 3,5 and 7 students on their efforts in
NAPLAN. They are one test at one moment in time. They don't
show how unique and special you guys are. We are proud of
you all.

ICE CREAM CONTAINERS
If anyone has any spare ice-cream containers
that they could donate to the school for care
meals, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
We remind all Casual Bus users of the SMS
messaging to Merridee, the LLS Transport Logistics
Co-ordinator (Bus Driver). This enables and assists in
collating the students that require bus transport, or
not. To the full time users please also use this service if
there is a change to your situation. We ask that all
messages are received before 7.15am and by
3pm. Mobile: 0413 025 689
