In 1991, the Education Planning Committee(Jawatankuasa Perancangan Pendidikan) of the Ministry ofEducation approved a proposal for the establishment of aKulliyyah of Languages, leaving the university to decide onthe course and content of the formation of the newKulliyyah.
The Kulliyyah started with 4 departments, English, Arabic,Malay and Tourism & Hospitality Management. The firstintake of pre-university student registered on 12 June2012. The programmes started with Arabic and English forInternational Communication. The University is alreadyoffering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes inEnglish and Arabic Linguistics and Literary Studies. Apartfrom that it is also offering Modern Arabic, English, Malay,Japanese, French and Mandarin proficiency courses. Thismeans that the university is ready to embark on offeringdegree programmes related to these languages.
Each programme is delivered using the latest techniquesand technologies in teaching and learning and is facilitatedby a team of highly qualified, experienced and dedicatedMalaysian and international team of expertscomprising professors, lecturers and supportingadministrative and technical staff. Both theundergraduate and postgraduate programmes will beviewed by policy makers and others as the barometer of acountry’s economy. Consequently, our programmes arecontinuously complex and therefore respond readily andimmediately to global changes in order to remain relevantand efficient.
KLM endeavors to provide you with exciting challengesand fulfilling journey towards building a successful career.student graduating from the course can expect to be wellprepared for any career either in journalism, internationalrelations, corporate training, consultancy or field ofteaching and research in postgraduatestudy.

COURSE TITLE SYNOPSIS
MESP 7301 Research Methodology
This course has been designed to enable students to embark on research in thecontext of ESP. Close attention will be paid to a number of essential elements ofresearch and to types of research designs. The course has the ultimate aim ofpreparing students to produce a sound research proposal which consists of anintroduction, a critical review of the literature, and a section on the methodologicalapproach. Students will be guided in problem identification and will learn toformulate research questions/hypotheses, operationalize concepts, obtain a samplefrom its population, and choose accurate data collection and data analysis procedures.The Islamic concerns of research methodology will also be highlighted.
MESP 7302Islamization of Knowledge in
ESP
This course will provide the origin, development and historical background ofIslamization of knowledge. Attention will be given to epistemological andmethodological issues in Islamization of knowledge. Special emphasis is given on therelevance of Islamization of knowledge especially in the context of English for SpecificPurposes.
MESP 7303Principles of Applied
Linguistics in ESP
This course gives a broad overview of Applied Linguistics in the context of English forSpecific Purposes. Important areas in the field are introduced, and the variousresearch approaches used are presented. The pedagogical implication of these areasare discussed.
MESP 7304 ESP Teaching Methods
This is a course on teaching methodology in English for Specific Purposes. This course
will give students an exposure to the general knowledge, attitude and skills needed in
the field of teaching English for Specific Purposes. Students will be taught to consider
important issues such as teaching approaches chosen, types of learners, background
of learners and their needs for acquiring the language.

MESP 7305 Materials Development in
Language Teaching in ESP
This course will provide students with an exposure to materials development in the
specific field of English for Specific Purposes. Students will be taught the basic framework
of materials design. They will be guided through the processes involved in materials
design. The use and adaptation of authentic materials is one of the important criteria in
ESP. Students will also be exposed to a case study of materials design. Following from this,
they will be given the opportunity to have a hands-on experience of creating their own
classroom materials using authentic texts.
MESP 7306 Course Design in ESP
This course is a research seminar on course design in TESP for students in the Mastersprogramme. In this course, each student will appraise an ESP course and conduct asystematic design of an ESP course. The product of this investigation will be a projectpaper on English for Specific Purposes programme. Class format consists of discussionsand presentations of selected topics by a discussion leader. Each student will lead the classdiscussion(s) on his/her choice of topic(s) during the weekly class discussions. Studentswill present a review of the topic, identify important issues, and suggest additionalreadings. Each student is also required to submit a reaction paper on the selected topic(s)during the discussion.
MESP 7307Professional Discourse in
ESP
This course gives a broad perspective on discourse in the various professions. The courseexplores the relationship between discourse and context. The various analyticalapproaches are discussed based on authentic texts.
MESP 7308 Issues in ESP
This course provides students with the essential knowledge on research and key issues inoffering English for Specific Purpose courses. This course is devoted to understandingmatters concerning course offering in the field of ESP. Some of the issues which currentlyinfluence and confront the discipline of ESP will be highlighted and discussed. During thediscussion sessions, students will present their findings of the key issues raised.

MESP 7309Language Testing and Assessment in ESP
This course considers assessment in regard to English for Specific Purposes, teachingtargets, methods, quality indicators, and as wide a variety as possible. The focus is onteacher-made tests in terms of observation, selection and supply, performance, anddirect personal communication items to assess knowledge, reasoning, skills, products,and dispositions. Assessment methods include written tests, observation, peer andself-reports, portfolio documentation, and performance/product tests in regard toplanning the instruments, administering them, interpreting the results, and providingfeedback that promotes ongoing, improved instructional decision-making andlearning for specific purposes.
MESP 7310 Technology in ESP
This course exposes students to the range of techniques for integrating technologiesinto language learning. It also examines how computers may be used in the analysis ofnatural languages. Research possibilities in the area of computer assisted languagelearning will also be discussed.
