A Word from our Chairman
Good afternoon to the Port Support and may I wel-come the players and officials of our visitors Lochee United.
Can I also welcome to the club our newly appointed manager Stevie Kay and his assistant Willie Camp-bell. I’m sure all our fans, like myself, wish them a long and happy tenure at Tayport Football Club.
It’s hopeful that they will be joined by one of my for-mer players at East Fife, Ryan Blackadder alias ‘The Dude’. Ryan at present, however, is tied up with work commitments.
I’m personally delighted that Stevie accepted the job. He was always my pick to replace the outgoing manager. I’m also delighted our committee felt the same way.
Stevie’s track record at his previous clubs is excellent and with our support I’m con-fident he’ll make a positive difference to the team.
One of the areas that the manager will have to address is our goals against statistic, having conceded eleven in our last three home games.
Last week saw us lose 3-0 to Thornton Hibs. Our caretaker manager made the bold decision in asking Roberto Morris, a former captain and legend at the club, back to help out as a number of players were unavailable for various reasons. I didn’t see much of the game but I’m told Roberto made a positive impact both on the pitch and in the dressing room. I believe one of his comments to the players was that neither goalkeeper had to make decisive saves but the difference was the errors that our side made.
So, we have Lochee United as our opponents this afternoon. They will start as huge favourites and there’s no doubt it will be an uphill task for us but we should have a few more players available. As I say, they are expected to win, so our players have a great challenge and should look on today’s game as such and go out with the knowledge that they’ll have to play at their very best to achieve a positive outcome.
Enjoy the game,
Davie Baikie

Today’s Game McBOOKIE East Super League
Tayport v Lochee United
A warm welcome to Lochee United’s committee, players and supporters on their first visit to the Canniepairt on league business for five seasons.
Top dogs
Lochee United finished rock bottom of the Super League in 2014/15 but returned to the Super League the following season and they’ve been top dogs since, in as far as Angus, Perth, Dundee and north Fife are concerned anyway. Since that promotion Lochee have finished 5th & 6th and are odds on favourites to win this season’s title.
Great start to season
What a start to the season they have had. 14 wins and 1draw from their 15 games to date, scoring an average of over 3 goals per game and boasting 9 clean sheets. Lochee have scored in every game, their goals having been shared by a dozen players, with Conor Birse and former Tayport player Grant Lawson the top marksmen.
No shortage of experience
The experience factor is very much to the fore at Thomson Park. George Shields has been in the management business both at Senior and Junior
level for a long time and he has the support in the dugout of former Dundee assistant manager Ray Farningham and Lee Wilkie.
With Wilkie in the dugout and Garry Kenneth in central defence. Lochee have two full Scottish Internationalists in their camp. Both also played
in cup finals for Dundee United, Lee a runner up when he captained the Tannadice club v Rangers in the 2008 League Cup final and Garry a Scottish Cup winner v Ross County in 2010.
Dougie Cameron and Bryan Deasley, who was at Dens Park for five seasons, add further experience to the Lochee line-up.
Return of TFC POY
Alan Tulleth who last season
picked up Tayport FC’s Player of the Year honours, moved to Lochee in the close season but collected a bad pre-season injury which has seen him only recently return to action as substitute and he will be keen to get a jersey today.
New era starts today
It’s the start of a new era at Tayport under manager Stevie Kay and the new boss could hardly have asked for a more difficult Canniepairt baptism.
Halfway point of season
Today marks the halfway point of the season and Tayport find themselves closer to the bottom than the top of the league after picking up only one point from their last three league outings.
Struan breaks leg
Struan Christie sustained a broken leg following a bad tackle v Thornton, Ireland is still injured, Conor Gray is on holiday and there could be doubts over Craig Sturrock who had to come off last week. Jamie Mackie could return after an injury layoff and Kris Rollo, who had a brief spell at Thomson Park, is available after suspension as is Stephen Duffy.
Although the Lochee United club playing this afternoon, joined the Scottish Junior FA, in 1959 there was previ-ously a Lochee United who played as a Senior club from 1887 to 1910 and a Lochee United team which was a member of the Scottish Junior FA from 1912 to 1939

Stevie has previously been player/manager at Burntisland Shiipyard, manag-er at Oakley United, assistant to Tom Courts at Kelty Hearts and most recent-ly, Dundonald Bluebell. Stevie will be assisted by Willie Campbell who was most recently in charge at Glenrothes.

Tayport suffered a third successive home defeat last weekend, when they went down by three goals to nil, against vis-iting Thornton Hibs. It has been a very difficult spell for the club and Saturday
was a day when everything seemed to conspire against the team. An own goal, a dodgy penalty and a de-
flection did for ‘Port, whose luck was most definitely out. That said, Thornton proved themselves to be a solid outfit and they would have con-sidered themselves to be deserving winners. Hibs opened the scoring on the quarter hour mark. Playing as a trialist, for-mer ‘Port captain and two-time Scottish Junior Cup winner Roberto Morris, had the misfortune to turn the ball into his own net, following a corner kick. The hosts then created a few opportunities to equalise, but the ‘keeper saved from Chris Liversedge and Struan Christie, while Craig Sturrock head-ed over the top. Thornton landed a sucker-punch when they were awarded a 33rd minute penalty. The decision was a dubious one, with Morris penal-ised for a challenge on Stuart Drummond. Drummond himself netted the spot kick, to double his side’s lead. By ten minutes into the second half, Thornton were home and dry, having netted their third counter, with the aid of a deflection. The game was effec-tively over, but that did not stop the players, on both sides, from incurring numerous cautions. Thornton’s McNab received an overdue booking, then got himself sent off, during the incident which also saw Jamie Gill receive his marching orders. It was a day to forget for ‘Port, who now face the toughest possible test, in the form of unbeaten Super League leaders Lochee United. On a much more positive note, Tayport will be under new management, Stevie Kay having been appointed earlier in the week. While it’s a baptism of fire for the new boss, everyone here welcomes him and Willie Campbell to the Canniepairt and wishes them all the best for what we all hope will be a long and happy future at the club. Support the ‘Port!
DUNMORE’S Match Report

TAYPORT and LOCHEE UNITED...THE HISTORY Tayport have played more games against Lochee United than any other club
P W D L F A
Tayport 66 37 10 19 144 89
In Tayport’s first season, 1990/91, the teams met three times in cup-ties, two legs of a Perthshire Advertiser Cup-tie and a Zamoyski Cup-tie (now Signa-ture Signs Cup). There was a 2-1 win for Tayport and a 1-1 draw in the PA and a win for United in the Zamoyski (report below). It would be a further 15 games and six years before Lochee would claim another win.
Things have changed though.
Since Tayport’s win in the 2005 Scottish Junior Cup Final before nearly 7,000 at Tannadice, Lochee United have held the whip hand, winning 13 of the 24 games between the clubs since that afternoon.
It’s eight years since Tayport won on the Canniepairt. There have been only three games here since, the most recent being in a Super League game in De-cember 2013, the last occasion on which the clubs have met competitively.
Lochee goalie Fraser Mann’s performance was described in the report as ‘inspired’. Clearly this is one of the perfor-mances which persuaded Tayport manager Davie Baikie to secure Fraser’s transfer at the end of the season. The rest, as they say, is history. Fraser didn’t only move to Tayport to play and pick up a whole host of medals, but he also set up home in the town.

There’s been a load of changes since Tayport joined the Juniors
When 25 clubs left the Scottish Junior FA at the end of last season it was the biggest ever change in membership. This week we look at the membership changes there have been in Junior football since Tayport joined the Association in 1990.
The structure of the game was different then as there were six Regional Associations as opposed to the three we have now. In 1990 we had North, East, Central, Ayrshire, Fife and Tayside Associations. Today we have North, East and West.
Since 1989/90 six clubs have gone from the Tayside JFA - Arbroath SC, Balbeggie, Bankfoot Athletic and the Dundee clubs, Stobswell, Elmwood and St Josephs.
Only one - Tayport - has joined the (former) Tayside JFA in this time.
The Fife JFA during this period has lost Tulliallan Thistle, Leven Juniors, Jubilee Ath-letic, Halbeath, Clackmannan, Benarty, Ballingry Rovers and Steelend. The last three had been additions to the Fife JFA during the same period. Also joining the Junior fold in Fife were Kennoway Star Hearts and Rosyth, both still going strong.
The North Region has experienced the most changes, with three clubs joining the Highland League, and several changing names, in Bridge of Don Thistle’s case, 4 times. They started as Wilson’s XI, changed to Hillhead FC, then to Bridge of Don Thistle, changing again, this time to Newburgh Thistle before reverting to Bridge of Don Thistle. What it will be next, is anybody’s guess!
Some clubs amalgamated and about a dozen went defunct. To offset those disap-pearing, eleven new clubs have joined the North Region Juniors in the past 30 years.
Of the clubs which comprised the former Ayrshire Juniors there have been no losses. But there has been one addition—Girvan who joined from the South of Scotland League.
In the former Central JFA, which with Ayrshire is now the West Region, only Baillieston, Stonehouse Violet, Coltness Utd and Dunipace have gone with Clyde-bank, Rossvale, Gartcairn and Newmains Utd (who took over from Coltness) the additions.
Prior to the mass defection discussed in Port Prog No.9, there had always been a bit of chopping and changing of clubs between the East Region and the East of Scotland League. Only Bonnybridge Juniors from those clubs who comprised the old East Re-gion in 1989/90 have gone out of existence, with Pumpherston , who joined the same year as Tayport, and Harthill Royal joining up.

This pic from the Photo Archives dates from February 2002. It’s Lochee Unit-ed v Tayport at snowy and muddy Thomson Park in the last season of the Tayside League. Ronnie Kenneth heads a goal in Tayport’s 5-1 win
Both Tayport teams were in action 50 years ago this weekend. The 1st XI was at Bev-eridge Park in Kirkcaldy winning 3-0 v Argos United in a Fife Amateur Cup-tie on Saturday 16th November 1968
The team was Derek White; Walter Kemp, Jim Mathers; Ron-nie ’Bingo’ Laing (pictured outside the old stripping hut after a post match dook at Tayport’s Esplanade earlier that sea-son—no showers in these days but the tide was in!), Jim Scott, Richard Redpath; Albert Oswald, George Ritchie, Ian White, Andy Johnstone, Doug Henderson. Sub (only one in these days) was Stan Cowe. Henderson, an O.G. and Ritchie netted for Tayport.
The 2nd XI was away to Dundee YMCA at Clive Road in a Midlands AFA Alliance League Division 2 game.
It was a 3-2 win for Tayport whose team that afternoon was Dick Pearce; Ian Mathers and James Foulis; Ronnie Redpath, Andy Horan and Derek McRobbie; Dennis Auld, Raymond White, Ian Mackie, George Bryson and Alan Brown. Sub. was Jimmy Wighton. Auld, Bryson and Mackie were the marksmen.

Lochee look a good bet
Despite being away from home, Lochee look certs to reach the last 16 next week with a win at Carluke Rovers.
Indeed current form suggests the Thomson Park side are a good bet to go all the way.
There may be only eight East clubs left in the last 32 but there appears no reason why we can’t go into the new year with a healthy representation in the last 16.
