Sunday Bulletin Twenty fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 11, 2016
From Safari Patricia Sánchez writes, “The older brother in the para-ble (Prodigal Son), in his resistance to his father’s joy and in his resentment regarding his prodigal brother’s reinstatement, may have evoked certain sympathy from the Pharisees and scribes who were in the crowd. Their argument, after all, was a reasonable one. Why should an errant son who demanded his birthright and then squandered it on a life of dissipation be welcomed home and celebrated once again as a beloved son?” (September 2016, Celebration, p.34, The National Catholic
Reporter Publishing Company, Kansas City, MO.) Given the head-lines of the past couple of weeks, why should we extend forgiveness to a person who abuses and kills a child? On this 15th anniversary of September 11th attacks why should we forgive the terrorists? Why? Because our God, who is crazy in love with us, is extravagantly merci-ful … because our God is irrationally forgiving.” We are challenged to imitate this extravagant mercy in our lives. Forgiveness is not condoning an action but rather offer-ing healing mercy for the other. Through this mercy God’s graces can touch the heart and bring about con-version. Such a forgiveness is only possible with God’s help; we cannot do it on our own. In some cases, for-giveness takes time; it will not occur overnight. What is essential is that we continue to offer forgiveness.
Or will you refuse such a love and find yourself on the outside looking in while forgiven sinners revel in God’s mercy? Have a peace filled week! —Fr. Ron
SCHOOL NEWS
HOLY CROSS Here we are, the first week of school is done! The students and
staff are all settled in, ready for another year of learning. This
year, we have 45 students! We’re growing! If you know of any-
one whose children are struggling with reading or processing dis-
orders, such as Dyslexia, please have them contact Holy Cross
School. We have an on-site tutor to work with them throughout
the day! We also still have a few openings in our PreK class,
Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Up next, Parent Night, Tuesday, September 13, at 7:00 p.m.
Mark your calendars: Pray and Walk-a-thon - Saturday, Oct. 8th.
Ride & Ribfest – Sunday, October 9th.
We’d like to thank our parishioners for your donations of garden
vegetables. The kids really enjoy the fresh produce. If you have
any apples, we’d love to make apple sauce and apple chips for the
students.
Have a wonderful weekend!
ST. WENDELIN
We finished our second week of school. It was like the students
never left for the summer. Everyone seems to have settled into
their classroom routines. On Wednesday, we welcomed our
pre-schoolers. Ms. Fleegel does such a good job to make them feel
welcomed and safe. Hopefully they are excited to return on Mon.
Our Kick and Toss Extravaganza...is only a couple weeks away.
It’s not too late to get a kickball team together. Or maybe you want
to compete in the beanbag tournament. (You are guaranteed at
least two games.) Both sound fun, so stop on over to the ball fields
on Saturday, September 24th. Come to watch the games and stay
for lunch. It’s going to be a great day!
Our School Masses...are each Wednesday at 7:45 am. Please feel
free to come to church to join us as we begin our day with Jesus.
Liturgy Lesson...Fr. Ron shared with the children that a lion was
missing from a collection of animal figures: a quick search re-
vealed the lion on the windowsill. Then reading the Gospel story
of the lost sheep, Father explained that Jesus is always looking for
us and is with us at all times, even on our hardest days.
I tell you there will be more joy in heaven
Over one sinner who repents Than over 99 righteous people
Who have no need of repentance.! Today’s Gospel from Luke
