Well, another school year has come and gone. Preparations are under way, already, for next year. But for now, it is time to enjoy the fun of the last few days of the school year, and an-ticipate all the activity of summer. This year started later than most other school years in re-cent memory, and is now concluding as late as many in the area can remember. It has been a busy, productive and engaging year on many different fronts.
This edition is packed full of ideas from the school and other partner agencies for activities for your family and your school aged children. I encourage you to check out as many as you can. Also, children need to READ over the summer. Please encourage and facilitate their interest and ability to continue to use the strategies they have learned all year as they read in a less structured environment. Children also need some down time in summer, so be sure to allow for that, among all the other vacation and out of school activities!!
Congratulations to our award winners that will be recognized on Friday, June 3, our last day of school. Also, congratulations and best wishes to our 5th grade class, most of whom are headed for Memorial Middle School. You are ready for the next challenge in your academic and social life, and you will do well next year and beyond!!
Pettigrew Families, enjoy your summer, be safe, and we will see many of you back in fall. Enjoy the DOWN time!!
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Pe grew has a new fundraiser for the 2016/2017 school year!
What: The Panther Dash is a fun run put on by Pe grew PTO. It will be a 10k run, 5k run, 5k
fun walk, and children’s dash. The 10k and 5k runs will be chip med. The children’s dash
length is yet to be determined, but will be very short (less than ¼ mile). This will be divided
into age groups and not med. If they choose, elementary children may sign up for the walk,
5k, or 10k.
Who: Anyone who would like to be involved! We hope this is a day for the Pe grew Elementary community to
come together for a family day. Any runner, walker, or dasher is welcome and encouraged to sign up and a end!
When: Sunday, Oct. 2nd at 2pm. The 10k, 5k run, and 5k walk will begin at 2pm. The children’s dash will happen at
the comple on of those events.
Where: The Sioux Falls Bike Trail. The official star ng point is in the works, but not yet finalized.
Why: The Panther Dash is a fundraiser for RF Pe grew Elementary School. This will be the large school fundraiser
for the 2016‐2017 school year, in place of selling items such as cookie dough or candles. As our school con nues to
grow it is evident that more playground equipment is needed. We would like to add another re swing and zip line
to the exis ng playground. Our goal is to raise $20,000 in order to finish the playground project that was started a
few years ago. The money will also be used for events such as Pe grew Day, Teacher Apprecia on, Conference
Meals, Pizza Bingo, the Science Fair, and so much more.
How: How can you be involved? Sign up for the race, volunteer, become a sponsor and share this informa on. The
sign up is online at h p://pantherdash.itsyourrace.com/event.aspx?id=7695
We have set an early bird race price ($30‐10k, $25‐5k run or walk, $15 Li le Panther Dash) along with a family bun‐
dle pack. When you sign up there is also a place for a dona on. If you are not a runner or walker, you can buy a race
t‐shirt, or just make a dona on. Please help spread the word about the race by sharing the sign up link with friends,
family, neighbors, etc. We also need many race day volunteers to make this event a success. Volunteer sign up will
happen in the fall. We need sponsors for the race. The sponsorship informa on is a ached.
All racers (including dashers) will receive a Pe grew Dash t‐shirt.
We are very excited about this event! It will be a wonderful day for the Pe grew Elementary com‐
munity as well as the community of Sioux Falls. If you have any ques ons please contact:
