ABSTRACT
An effective lecturer is a lecturer who can understand a condition of students,
give full of motivation, provide pleasant learning, and perform systematic teaching.
An effective lecturer has an important role in improving the quality of student
achievement. In this research, the author intends to know the characteristics of
effective lecturers and student perception about it in ESP subject. The quantitative
approach is selected for this study. The subjects are ESP students who are taught by
the best lecturers in UMM. It consists of 141 students from 4 classes, from
Accounting Department class F, Law Department class E, Indonesian Education
Department class C, and Management Department class J. The instrument used was
questionnaire distributed via Google form. The author got 32 respondents from a
total of 141 targeted students. This research yields two findings. First, they perceive
that an effective lecturers have 4 characteristics: 1) educational awareness, 2)
organization and communication skills, 3) social and emotional skills, 4) english
proficiency.

which is a requirement in order to complete a study to pursue a Bachelor of
Education at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of
Muhammadiyah Malang.
The author realizes that this thesis is far from perfect. It was realized because
of the limited ability and knowledge of the author. Great expectations of the writer,
I hope this thesis is useful for writers in particular and for other parties in general.
In the preparation of this thesis the authors get a lot of lessons, motivation support,
assistance in the form of very valuable guidance from various parties ranging from
the implementation to the preparation of this thesis report.
On this occasion the author would like to thank profusely to those who the
author respects and loves who have helped directly or indirectly during the making
of this thesis.
