- Thecell cycle, orcell-division cycle, is the series of events
that takes place in a cellleading to its division and
duplication
- Cell cycle involve the interphase and the mitotic phase or also
known as cell division.
CELL CYCLE 4. Interphase is the phase in the cell cycle in which
the cell spends the majority of its time and performs majority of
its proposes including preparation for the cell division . 5.
- Cell division is the process of which parent cell divides to
become 2 or more daughter cells.
- There are two types of cell division, Mitosis and Meiosis
.
- Mitosis - divides the replicated DNA equally thus producing two
identical sets of exact genetic copy of the parental nucleus.
- Meiosis - reduction of the chromosomal number to half of the
parental chromosomal numb er.
CELL DIVISION 6. MITOSIS 7. MEIOSIS I 8. MEIOSIS II 9.
TECHNIQUES
- 2 techniqueswere used to detect the misconception of students
in the topic of cell division:
10. BRAIN STORMING!!
- Teacher showed a model of meiosis and mitosis to students.
Then, the students were asked to draw the mitosis and meiosis
without looking at the model.
11. 2. INTERVIEWS
- The students were asked to respond to
- What would happen to organelles, such as mitochondria and
chloroplast during cell division?
- Where we can found nucleus in a cell?
- Which phase does the replication of DNA occur?
12.
- What do you understand by the word interphase?
- DNA replication takes place in which process? Meiosis or
Mitosis?
- How do chromosomes formed?
- In mitosis, which phase does the homologous chromosome
separate?
- What would happen to the number of chromosomes in the prophase
and anaphase of mitosis?
- The example of meiosis process in human?
13.
- Do the chromosomes always have two chromatids?
- Which stage the centroles replicated?
- How diploid cells are formed?
- During the cell division, what happen to each centriole?
- Spindle fibres are formed from?
- Do the centrosomes and centrioles the same thing?
- Are sister chromatids are homologous chromosome?
14. STUDENTS ALTERNATIVE CONCEPTION 15. 1) STUDENTS DRAWING A
MODEL OF MEIOSIS AND MITOSIS ARE SHOWN TO STUDENTS. THEN, THE
STUDENTS WERE ASKED TO DRAW THE MITOSIS AND MEIOSIS WITHOUT LOOKING
AT THE MODEL. WHAT HAPPEN??? 16. 17. 18. 2)INDIVIDUAL INTERVIEWS :
WERE CONDUCTED ABOUT THE DETAILED SUBJECTS WITH RANDOMLY CHOSEN
STUDENTS WHO DEMONSTRATED MISCONCEPTIONS.THE PURPOSE WAS TO CHECK
THE VALIDITY OF THE INTERPRETATION OF THE DRAWINGS. 19. 1) WHERE
ARE THE LOCATION OF CENTRIOLES? 20. A drawing of misconception of
centrioles are found in the nucleus of a cell 21. 2 )WHEN DOES DNA
REPLICATION OCCUR IN A CELL?, 22. A drawing of misconception of DNA
replication occurs between prophase and metaphase during cell
division 23. 3)WHAT HAPPENS TO THE CELL ORGANELLES DURING THE CELL
DIVISION PROCESS?, 24. A drawing of misconception of interphase is
the resting phase of the mitosis. 25. 4)HOW DO THE CHROMOSOMES ACT
DURING MITOSIS AND MEIOSIS?. 26. A drawing of misconception of the
chromosome number is doubled in the prophase of mitosis and halved
in the anaphase of mitosis. 27. 5)HOW DIPLOID CELLS ARE FORMED? 28.
A drawing of misconception of diploid cells are formed as a result
of meiosis. 29. THE END
