The UAV team from (ECE), won theoverall championship at the 2017Singapore Amazing Flying MachineCompetition (SAFMC) held on 17 March. The team also clinched the best platformdesign award and a total cash prize ofS$8,000 in the fully autonomouscategory.

SAFMC is an annual event organised byDSO National Laboratories and supportedby Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). In thefully autonomous category, contestantsare required to navigate UAV in unknownindoor environments and performchallenging missions, such as automatictaking-off, and flying through a windowand a narrow corridor before reaching achemical room, where the drone has tosearch and collect a chemical sampleand identify a casualty. It then enters adark room to search for a secondcasualty, before exiting through a circularwindow and clearing the array of poles toland precisely on a landing pad.

Dual Champions at IMAV 2017 Flight

The outdoor competition requires several UAVs working togetherto complete tasks such as aerial mapping, target detection &identification, storage inspection and cooperative carrying.
