TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The Second Vatican Council decreed that the devotional life of the Church should be examined and reformed with an eye towards expressing Easter faith. This encourage-ment for creativity has deep roots in our tradition, and some attempts at reform show great promise. One of the great treasures in our devotional repertoire is a familiar feature of Lent: the Way of the Cross. The faithful walk a path recalling the events of Christ's passion, a contem-plative experience increasingly enriched these days by scripture and song. There are fourteen stations in the usual configuration, although in recent years, a fifteenth station of the Empty Tomb has been added. Why stop there? Why not develop a similar journey structured on the theme of the appearances of the Risen Lord? Over the last decade, a Via Lucis, or "Way of Light," has de-veloped as a companion to the Via Crucis. It has been celebrated at the Vatican and is catching on elsewhere. There are fourteen stations, beginning with the Women Carrying Spices to the Tomb, continuing with the familiar appearances of the Lord at Emmaus, the Upper Room, the shore of Tiberias. The journey ends with stations recalling the apostles' wait with Mary for the advent of the Spirit, and with Pentecost. This is fertile ground in-deed for the genius of artists, musicians, preachers, and liturgists. This is a living example of how many of our traditions are born to fill a great spiritual need, and spread to every corner of the Church. It may even come soon to a church near you. Maybe next Eastertime! --Rev. James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

“Ireland and Scotland Trip” Fr. Norm Douglas and Deacon Robin & Paula Adair, will be host-ing a trip to Ireland and Scotland,
August 19-31, 2016 with Proximo Travel. (See www.proximotravel.com. Scroll down on Custom trips). An Information night will be held in the Scullen Room on May 17, 2016, at 7 p.m. Consider this opportunity to travel Ireland and Scotland with fellow parishioners and friends. Questions: Deacon Adair at 330-283-4983.
A NOTE FROM FR. NORM Thank you to everyone who has been praying for my recovery from surgery to correct a deviated septum and to remove my uvula to help me breathe better at night. What was originally outpatient sur-gery turned into an overnight experience. Those who attended to me were compe-tent, conscientious, and caring. What a wonderful combination! I deeply appreciate all medical personnel. Anyone involved in healthcare, including caretakers at home and in nursing facilities, should see what they do as sacred work, as healing ministry. Mother Teresa once said that we are all called to be the presence of Jesus in our daily relationships, especially with hurting peo-ple. During this Jubilee year of mercy, we are re-minded that one of the corporal acts of mercy is visit-ing the sick. Our parish is blessed to have many Eucharistic ministers unselfishly bringing Communion to the homebound and to residents of area nursing facili-ties. I especially want to commend those of you who provide daily care for your loved ones at home or in the vicinity. If you are doing this, be encouraged also to take care of yourself. Pope Francis often states that the church, that every parish, is called to be a field hospital in the midst of daily life, looking for and reaching out to people who are wounded – whether physically, men-tally, emotionally, or spiritually. Thank you for being that kind of parish. May we become even better.

The Elizabeth Stuart Church Choir Festival - takes place on Thursday, May 12th, at 8pm at our diocesan Cathedral of St John the Evangelist in Cleve-land. Our own Canticum Novum choir has been in-vited to sing a twenty-minute concert as part of the festival. You’re invited to come to the cathedral to hear some great choral singing — and it’s free! And there’s free parking in the deck or in the lot across from the cathedral — what could be better? If you somehow can’t make it up to the cathedral to cheer us on in person, make sure you tune in to WCLV 104.9 FM, as they will be broadcasting the concert live. Don’t miss it!

Thank you again for all of your support! If you would like to join the Altar Socie-ty next year, our first meeting will be September 19th. We always welcome new members!
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has
decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all
things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: "He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness
endures forever." 2 Corinthians 9:6-9
