The month of August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah (IS 56:1, 6-7)
Thus says the LORD: Observe what is right, do what is just; for my salvation is
about to come, my justice, about to be revealed. The foreigners who join
themselves to the LORD, ministering to him, loving the name of the LORD, and
becoming his servants— all who keep the sabbath free from profanation and hold
to my covenant, them I will bring to my holy mountain and make joyful in my
house of prayer; their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be acceptable on my altar,
for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.
Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
August 16, 2020Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
(The people’s responses in bold represent wording that Pope Benedict had changed in the Mass throughout the world.)
Greeting
Priest: The Lord be with you.People: And with your spirit.
The Confiteor
I confess to almighty Godand to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinnedin my thoughts and in my words,in what I have doneand in what I have failed to do, (And then striking your breast three times)through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;therefore, I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. Priest: Lord have mercy. People: Lord have mercy.Priest: Christ have mercy. People: Christ have mercy.Priest: Lord have mercy. People: Lord have mercy.*
*(Or any other option the priest chooses. “The Lord havemercy” can be sung as “Kyrie elison” or the Penitentialhymn “Asperges” may be sung.)
Gloria
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King.O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ,Only Begotten Son,Lord God, Lamb of God,Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One,you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans (ROM 11:13-15, 29-32)
Brothers and sisters: I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to theGentiles, I glory in my ministry in order to make my race jealous and thus save some ofthem. For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance bebut life from the dead? For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable. Just as you oncedisobeyed God but have now received mercy because of their disobedience, so they havenow disobeyed in order that, by virtue of the mercy shown to you, they too may nowreceive mercy. For God delivered all to disobedience, that he might have mercy upon all.
Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew (MT 15:21-28)
People: Glory to you, O Lord.
At that time, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. Andbehold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, “Havepity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.”But Jesus did not say a word in answer to her. Jesus’ disciples came andasked him, “Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.” He said inreply, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But thewoman came and did Jesus homage, saying, “Lord, help me.” He said inreply, “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to thedogs.” She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fallfrom the table of their masters.” Then Jesus said to her in reply, “Owoman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And thewoman’s daughter was healed from that hour.
Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
The Responsorial: O God, let all the nations praise you! (PS 67: 2-3, 5, 6, 8)
Lector: Alleluia! People Only: Alleluia! (Stand) Lector Only: Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the kingdom
and cured every disease among the people. (MT 4:23)
People Only: Alleluia!
Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit.
Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father;
through Him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation He came down
from heaven,At the words that follow, up to and including and became Man, all bow
and by the Holy Spirit was Incarnate of the
Virgin Mary and became Man.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
He suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver ofLife, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
Who with the Father and the Son is adored and
glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the deadand the life of the world to come. Amen.

O Thou who art our Mother, saving us in thehour of peril, have compassion on us in these days of great and heavy trial. We recognize thy Queenship and ardently desire thy triumph. We needa Mother and a Mother's Heart. Thou art for us the luminous dawn which dissipates ourdarkness and points out the way to life. In thy clemency obtain for us the courage andthe confidence of which we have such need. Most Holy and Adorable Trinity, Thou Whodidst crown with glory in Heaven the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Savior, grantthat all her children on earth may acknowledge her as their Sovereign Queen, that allhearts, homes, and nations may recognize her rights as Mother and as Queen.
