Third Sunday in Easter
Reading I
Acts 2: 14, 22-33
It was impossible for Jesus
to be held by death.
Reflection: We hear from St. Peter that it
was God’s plan to raise up Jesus from the
dead. Death could not corrupt Jesus. New
life exults the Christ. The resurrection
fulfills God’s promise to David. This Spirit
is found in the history of our salvation. Like
the first followers of Jesus, do I see and
hear the Holy Spirit active in our world?
Psalm 16
Lord, you will show us the path of life.
Reading II
1 Peter 1: 17-21
You were saved with the precious
Blood of Christ, as with that of
a spotless, unblemished lamb.
Reflection: In the Letter of Peter, the
Gentile community is reminded that God
PARISH MISSION STATEMENT: The very heart of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church is Jesus Christ present on the
altar. Our mission, born at that altar, is to be sent forth into our neighborhood in order to
build up the Kingdom of God. The labor of this effort must address in deed more than in
word the needs of our people.
has been a part of their story from the
foundation of the earth. Through Christ
Jesus, faith and hope are found from God and
in God. During this current journey with all
its unknowns, do I conduct myself with
reverence and goodness toward creation?
Gospel
Luke 24: 13-35
They recognized Jesus in
the breaking of bread.
Reflection: Today's gospel is a message for
all the ages. We know the way Jesus meets
his disciples on the road. We know they
recognize Jesus in the Eucharist broken and
shared. We journey tougher and encounter
the Risen Jesus in word and sacrament each
day. Do our eyes see, our ears hear, and our
hearts burning within us, as we are filled
with the life of the Risen Christ?

Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds, hide me.
Permit me not to be separated from you.
From the wicked enemy defend me.
At the hour of my death call me,
bid me come to your side, that with your
saints I may praise you forever and ever.
Amen

PASTOR’S CORNER
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Jesus Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
Our Easter Season continues with St. Luke’s
account of the disciples on the road to
Emmaus. What change occurs when they
recognize that Christ is with them! They see
the world in a different light and want to
make sure that others can share in their
vision. Our hearts burn with excitement
when we think of the future. True, we may
have heart-burn when figuring out how to
live these days with meaning. But like the
disciples, we must notice that Jesus Christ is
walking on this road with us.
We continue to follow Archbishop Carlson’s
guidelines for the care and well-being of
ourselves and our neighbors in mind, body
and spirit. We connect by phone or internet,
rather than in person. We pray for one
another and our world, rather than with each
other. We discover spiritual communion
with God and neighbor, rather than physical
proximity or union. We mourn and comfort
with intentional words and prayers, rather
than warm embraces.
These times demand deep faith. Easter
celebrations remind us to look, to listen, to
find the Risen Christ in new, unexpected
ways. Easter strengthens us so we find the
freedom to announce His presence in our
world, here and now.
Jesus Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

50th Anniversary of Earth Day
On Wednesday, Pope Francis said that living
with COVID 19 has shown us how we can
overcome global challenges by showing
solidarity with one another and embracing the
most vulnerable in our midst. We must renew
our care for “our garden-home” the earth, for
“we stand on holy ground.” We ask Madonna
