Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time November 10, 2019
The first reading today is the moving story of Jewish
martyrs willing to die for their faith rather than break
the dietary laws of their faith. What are we willing to
sacrifice for others? The principles of Catholic Social
Teaching cover everything from human life to the envi-
ronment. They teach us about care for the poor and
vulnerable, the importance of family; the importance of
solidarity. Are we willing to give of ourselves, to under-
stand these principles until they shape our lives and
are as important to us as the law of Moses was to
those in the first reading?

Congratulations
Jim Oakes!!
I am proud to share with you our nominee for the 2019 event, Mr. Jim Oakes. Mr. Oakes is a perfect example of one who serves, who helps others & gives unselfishly. Mr. Oakes has been active at St. Mary’s Catholic School & Parish for many years. Not only does he usher each Sunday, help with collection counting on Mondays, but also is the head of the Parish Finance Council & serves on the building committee. Mr. Oakes commitment to the Catholic Church then extends across the small driveway to St. Mary’s Catholic School where his daughter is an alumnus and his three grandchildren attend. Jim has always been a great supporter of the school & willingly steps up to help in any way he can. From voluntarily mentoring school altar servers, to installing backpack hooks outside our 6th grade classroom, putting together a new rolling cart & playground benches, the tasks are never too great or too small and he attacks each task with enthusiasm. His support continues as a member of the Consultative School Board where he enthusiastically works for the viability and vitality of our school. Mr. Oakes is an exceptional member of our Catholic School family. We are very blessed. Tickets for this event are now on sale online: https://secure.acceptiva.com/?cst=qgcmVp. Please join us as we honor a truly great man.
