Saint Gabriel the Archangel Saddle River
Dark violet is used throughout Advent to express its character as a season of spiritual preparation for Christmas and “the coming of the Lord.” But on the Third Sunday of Advent, formerly known as Gaudete (Latin for “rejoice”) Sunday, rose may be added to the liturgical environment. The entire liturgy is infused with a spirit of rejoicing. Today’s first reading and Gospel proclaim the reality of God’s saving work in our midst. Isaiah exuberantly describes the idyllic transformation of all creation as a result of God’s presence in the midst of the people. In the Gospel, Jesus connects Isaiah’s prophecy with what is happening in his own ministry. In addition to the list of healings from Isaiah, the blind, the lame, lepers, and the deaf, Jesus’ presence brings two other reasons for rejoicing: “The dead are raised, and the poor have the good news pro-claimed to them.” Peace, Fr. Frank

CHRISTMAS CONCERT THANK YOU! On December 8th our Adult Choir, KidsChoir, Chil-dren’s Color Bell Choir and Holiday Color Bell Choir held their annual Christmas Concert. We had a great number of families and friends join us for this beautiful celebration of Christmas mu-sic, which included musical selections from a variety of instru-ments: viola, violin, piano and organ. In honor of the 10th anniversary of the parish’s Kegg Pipe Organ, we had a musical piece commissioned. The piece, written by WeiCheng Zhao, is titled Christmas Fantasia. The piece made it’s official debut at the concer; it was played beauti-fully by Stacie. It is a wonderful rendition of many of our favor-ite Christmas songs. I extend a special thank you to Stacie Yao, Music Direc-tor, Janue Vargas, Assistant Director and Angela Scorese, who directs the KidsChoir, and to all those who are part of our music ministry for all that they did to make the concert so moving; it was a wonderful way to get us into the Christmas spirit. I thank all those who participated in the Christmas Concert, as well as all the moms who helped with the children’s choirs, for the sharing of their time and talent with our parish in so many special ways.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Christmas is a time for giving. We take the time to choose a special gift for the special person in our life. The gifts we give are a signs of our love and appreciation for those that we care about. Christmas is also a time for us to give a gift to our par-ish. St. Gabriel’s is more than a building, it is a place where we come together as a family to pray, to celebrate the Sacraments, to educate our youth, and to provide a comfortable and beautiful space of worship. We are so grateful for the generosity and sacrifice of our parishioners who have enabled the Church to grow, as well as to provide the many ministries we offer. We ask for your generous and continued support in your Christmas offering to the parish during this season of giving.
GRATEFUL HEARTS
Once again it was a beautiful time in Hackensack due to the gen-erosity of all who participated!! It was a festive time for our guests and they thoroughly enjoyed their meal. (Many raves about The Saint Gabri-el's Meal!) We can't thank each and every one of you enough ......those who participated by helping out at the sign-up table, cooking, shop-ping, gathering the rolls and bread, getting the
sweets, and serving the meal!! Yes, it may "take a village" but it most definitely requires a sacrifice on your part and I think all of us would agree that it is a very worthy cause and deeply appreci-ated by all. May God bless you and all those you hold dear with His bountiful love at Christmas time. Love, Carol Lee Crowley and Laura Golluscio
