THE SACRIFICIAL GIVING OF OUR PARISHIONERS
The collection will be announced in next weeks bulletin.
Thank you.
Dear Parishioners,
When I used to work at the gas station behind the cash register inside the Mini-Mart, there would be times when large groups of people would come in at the same time. I used to hate it when that happened because I knew that if I saw someone stealing something the likelihood of me speaking out was slim, and the times that I did see someone steal something I kept quiet and turned a blind eye. The reason? I did not get paid enough to call them out, get into an argument and get myself hurt over a candy bar. And honestly, even if I did get paid enough, I would probably act the same way. Those material things were simply not worth risking my life. There are things, however, which are worth the fight and the risk. Today we celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday. Our Lord tells us that He is the good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep and he invites us to do the same.
If we look at the earthly life of our Lord, we find that He gave his time, his energy, his very self to provide for both the physical and spiritual nourishment of the people entrusted to Him by the Father. When we look at our lives, we have to ask ourselves two questions: who are the people God has entrusted to me at this moment and am I fulfilling my mission to care for them? In this instance, we cannot afford to turn a blind eye because unlike the candy bars at the store the people in our lives matter; they matter so much that Jesus laid down his life for them, and he invites us to do the same.
In Christ, Fr. JJ
