Sprengeloo, Technology Tower “How can a new building help to change the negative image of technical education?”

Vocational Training Centre, 300 students, aged 14-16. In Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. 3,000 sqm.

Ambition: an attractive school for construction, automotive, ICT, metal technique, plumbing, and electrical engineering.

The interest among young people for technology is rapidly declining.

Learning by doing: practical work combined with instruction. Classrooms linked to workshops.

The ‘Technology Tower’ as a positive icon and landmark in the city. It does not look like a factory.

Innovative, attractive design: ‘a cool place to be’. Green architecture: compact building, daylight, concrete core activation, thermal energy storage.

Design: Thomas Rau
