SPORTSMEN’S NOTES Official Newsletter of the Dormont-Mt.Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club
JANUARY 2015
2
• Dues are due: Time is running out to pay your 2015
dues. Dues must be received by Jan 31. DMSC does NOT
mail out bills for annual dues. It is each member’s
responsibility to pay dues by the deadline. Dues may be
paid at the membership mee&ngs or by mailing a check to
the club PO Box.
• Membership Terminated: A member was observed
shoo&ng out beyond the firing line on the Upper Pistol
Range. This is a viola&on of the range rules which are
clearly posted at the range. The Board voted to
terminate membership of the individual.
• Thursday Open Shoots: Open shoots at the indoor
range have been added for the winter on Thursdays when
Director and Membership mee&ng do not occur. See the
club calendar for more informa&on.
• WPIAL Rifle Championship: The WPIAL championship
will again be at DMSC this year on Feb 10 & 12.
• New Member Applica#ons: DMSC will be accep&ng
applica&ons for new members in 2015. Anyone
interested in applying for membership must a5end one of
the orienta&on/interview days on Feb 1, 8, or 22nd.
Details of the membership applica&on process should be
reviewed on the club website prior to a5ending the
orienta&on.
• Entry Gate: Maintenance was performed on the entry
gate recently. Please no&fy George Taylor if the gate
does not automa&cally close behind you.
• Safety and Emergency Response at DMSC
The Board met with local emergency responders in
2014 and has taken steps to implement their
sugges&ons to improve our emergency preparedness.
A new sensor was added to the entry gate to allow
police, EMS, and the fire department access to the
club without having to use a normal gate pass.
A defibrillator (AED) was purchased by the club and
placed in the hallway near the bathrooms in the
clubhouse. An instruc&onal video on how to use the
AED can be found here:
DMSC SHORT SHOTS
www.youtube.com/watch?v=nz8eYnYXAbw
A first aid kit and a telephone are also located in the
hallway near the bathrooms in the event of an
emergency.

• Plinking Range Target Frame: The plinking range target
frame was rebuilt. Green mesh fencing was used as the

The target frames on the Meadow Range were
constructed with the same design using mesh fencing.
Again, do not a5ach targets to the wooden frame.

Last night your Dormont-Mt. Lebanon rifle team fired one of the be5er scores of the season in a 1483-1436 win over
visi&ng Murrysville. At the half-way point we are 8-2 and currently in second place in the Pi5sburgh & Suburban Rifle
League behind 9-1 Frazier-Simplex. We s&ll control our own des&ny as we have two more head-to-head matches with
Frazier.
Congratula&ons to Amy Smith, firing her league-leading fourth 300 of the season! Congratula&ons also to Rick Janoski,
con&nuing to crank out good scores on very li5le prac&ce. And congrats to all of our fine kneeling shooters: Bob, Miles,
Ma5, Tom G & company… it’s nice to see five 100’s on the score sheet!
This Sunday we will prac&ce star&ng around 6:00 pm or so. We’ll have a couple of prospec&ve new shooters vising; Pat
Felton and his daughter Haley, who are both interested in learning how to shoot smallbore.
Next week our three-match home stand con&nues with Irwin coming for a visit. We need to make sure that we avenge
our season-opening home loss to them!
Good shoo&ng everyone!
