Course Description: Assessment: Students’ Comments:

This is a course that includes both

written and practical elements. The

course offers students the chance to

study key areas of Sports Science linked

to fitness, health, injury and

performance as well as the science of

training and application of training

principles. Four units are studied;

Reducing the risk of sports injuries

Applying the principles of Training

Sports Nutrition

Technology in Sport

This course will help you to;

Be an effective participator in

sport.

Work effectively as a team

member.

Be an independent learner who

can work out problems by

themselves.

Improve your self-discipline.

Be a creative thinker and ask

questions to extend your

knowledge.

Be able to reflect on your own

strengths and limitations.

Look at the sports industry as a

whole, not just from a sports

performer’s point of view.

You will be marked on coursework

that is marked internally then

moderated externally. You will sit an

externally assessed exam for one of

the units.

Overall mark scheme:

COURSEWORK -75%

Applying the principles of Training (60

marks available)

Sports Nutrition (60 marks available)

Technology in Sport (60 marks available)

EXAM – 25%

Reducing the risk of sports injuries (60

marks available)
