I have wanted to direct this show ever since I saw a production 20 years ago! When the rights nally became available, I jumped at the opportunity! Gilligan’s Island brings back so many fun childhood memories. Maybe the show was goofy and farfetched- ok, it was ridiculous- but it was so much fun! e musical in-corporates some of the best moments of the T.V. show with the added bonus of singing and dancing! e stage show was written by the series creator Sherwood Shwartz and his family so it makes sense that all of the original fun is here. e best part is that somehow, in less than two hours, we get to know the beloved characters even better than we did watching all 3 seasons of the show on endless re-runs! You can take the show at face value and just have a ball laughing at Gil-ligan and Skipper, debating Ginger or Mary Ann, wondering about the Howell's wealth and admiring e Professor (I always think of his rst name as “e”) and you’d have an evening’s entertainment. But if you care to look deeper (and some do, entire college theses have been written on the topic of Gilligan! Go gure!) I think the creators did a beautiful job of bringing a few simple truths to light. For example, how do people who are all so dierent from one another manage to live together in (mostly) harmony? Gilligan points us in the right direction when he says “All the people on the boat come from dierent places, but they’re all very nice…” We’ve found that to be true- when we are nice to each other in spite of our dierences, we not only get along, we have a ball! I hope you have as much fun as we have! Now, just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale…
