SPINE ESR-BASIC SYSTEM
All locking screws can be easily removed with this system. Always make sure that you have selected the right Hex. or TX. bit. If none of the bits fits, please use the KS extractor.

First select the appropriate bit for the locking screw. To do this, connect the bit attachment that you think will fit to the quick coupling and place the bit on the screw head. Check that the selected size is right.
Now, insert the bit into the screw head of the pedicle screw. Make sure that the slide ring is set to „counter-clockwise“ for the ratchet function of the screw driver. Now carefully turn the screwdriver handle counter-clockwise. Locking screws are generally not particularly tight, and tend to be easy to loosen.
To improve handling, you can also connect the bit quick coupling to the distance adapter. Now, turn the T-Handle counter-clockwise to loosen the locking screw while continuing to apply counter-pressure on the rod. By applying counter-pressure, you avoid damaging the construction or tearing out adjacent screws.
After selecting the correct bit, connect the quick coupling to the handle. You can choose between the T-handle and the I-handle.
However, there are also exceptions, with very tight screws. In these situations, you must use the pedicle screw retrieval tool as a counter-torque wrench. Place the tool directly over the rod next to the screw you want to remove.
If none of the TX. or Hex. bits fit, you can also remove the screw plugs using the KS extractor. Please use the extractor that grips the sides of the screw head without touching its base. Connect the extractor directly to the T-handle.

If the internal screw heads are identical in size to the locking screws, then use the same Hex. or TX. bit as you would to remove the locking screws.
If there is no fitting bit for the screw heads in the tulip, insert the rods with 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 mm diameter. The rod inserts are placed in the tulip head with the rod pliers.
Now place the pedicle retrieval instrument over the tulip head and the rod.
Connect the quick bit adapter to a handle and turn it counterclockwise to remove the pedicle screw.
Now secure the rod insert with one of the previously removed locking screws. Make sure that you tighten the locking screw enough to firmly attach the pedicle screw to the tulip head.
You can now easily remove the pedicle screw. Repeat this step until all screws are removed.
In many pedicle screw systems, the sizes of the screw heads that connect to the „tulip“ are identical to the sizes of locking screws. However, pedicle screws can easily be removed with this clever system, even if they have a completely different fitting in the tulip-head.
