APRIL IN PARIS! TEN DAYS OF JAZZ, ART, CULTURE AND HAUTE CUISINE WITH JOSE RIZO, BUBBA JACKSON & DAVID BENOIT
Arc de Triomphe
KJAZZ globetrotters are embarking on their third private floating musical festival cruise: this time to Paris and Normandy. And, we’d love for you to join us and fellow public radio jazz lovers!
We’ve chartered the first-class MS Amadeus Diamond just for all of us jazz-loving public radio supporters. We’ll hear a little gypsy jazz, Django Reinhardt style, throw one of our famous Latin jazz dance parties and travel back in time with music from Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole. Also featured are several onboard concerts performed by outstanding European musicians.
The trip begins with two pre-cruise nights in Paris, once home to a plethora of American jazz performers, writers, artists and musicians, it’s the perfect place to witness the on-going love affair between Paris and jazz. And then to start our floating jazz festival, we’ll cruise up the Seine to experience highlights such as Claude Monet’s Giverny Gardens, the spectacular Mont St Michel, the D-Day Beaches of WWII and delightful Norman villages and historic towns. We’ll also savor the local culinary specialties the French are so famous for: creamy cheeses, crisp cider and other local delights.
A good time is guaranteed – we hope you’ll join our floating jazz festival from Paris to Normandy!

YOUR TRIP HOSTS & JAZZ ARTISTS
Jose Rizo was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and raised in Oxnard, California. He played trumpet in high school, but
it was not until he was a student at U.C. Santa Barbara that he developed his passion for jazz. In the late 70s, Jose was the founder of “Radio Chicano”, a student and community broadcasting organization based on the Santa Barbara campus at KCSB, where he served as program director for two years. Rizo began hosting “Jazz on the Latin Side” on KLON (now KJAZZ) in early 1990. He was intricately involved on KLON’s “Latin Jazz Club Caravans” and served as a member of the Grammy’s Screening committee for Latin Jazz. He has been the artistic director of the Luckman Fine Arts Latin Jazz Concert Series and involved in the “Central Avenue Jazz Festival” since its inception.
Bubba Jackson was born in Harlem, New York. As a radio personality and Program Director he has worked as on-air host at
many of the top jazz stations around the country. The Los Angeles Times Calendar section states “One of the best things about drive-time in L.A. is Bubba Jackson.” Bubba has been a concert producer, promoter, talent coordinator and master of ceremonies. His festival experience includes the Prince Hall Shriners’ Concert in Los Angeles, New Orleans and St. Louis, The Millennium Music Festival (Los Angeles), the Doheny Blues Festival, Big Time Blues Festival, the Central Avenue Jazz Festival and many others. Bubba Jackson is well-known and well-liked as an award winning radio and television personality, seasoned concert producer and a skilled researcher with exceptional organizational skills.
Algerian-born, Franck grew up in Nice, France. He studied in the US at Berklee College of Music and Manhattan School of
Music. In 2002, Franck returned to France and settled in Paris. He has performed in countless jazz festivals around the world and has received high praise from the critics for his numerous recordings, both piano and vocal. Franck has composed pieces for big band and for string and chamber orchestra.
Over the last quarter century, composer and pianist David Benoit has been a passionate musical innovator committed to
the exploration of many different art forms on the American landscape. A five-time GRAMMY nominee for his seminal contributions to the genre of contemporary jazz, Benoit has also embarked on a multi-faceted journey into the classical music world. This has led to guest pianist and conductor spots with numerous top orchestras, four performances at Carnegie Hall (including one with Leonard Bernstein at the podium), a performance on the steps of the Capitol Building with the National Symphony for the annual PBS July 4th event, and the creation of his new orchestral work, Dolores Del Carmen, and chamber composition, Music for Two Trios.
