On behalf of the staff at Carihi, I would like to offer our congratulations to the graduating class of 2016. While many of you have taken your own unique path to achieving graduation, we can all share in the successes and accomplishments you have experienced over the past 4 years at Carihi. We hope that you look back on your time at Carihi with fond memories and take a moment to show your appreciation to those who have helped shape your paths to becoming the strong well-rounded individuals that we see each day.
We would like to thank you for the contributions you have made to our school and to the greater community of Campbell River and its surrounding areas. It has been inspiring to see you excel in the areas of fine arts, athletics, academics, and citizenship, and your joy and enthusiasm for making our school an exceptional place to simply be yourself has not gone unnoticed. Your caring spirit combined with your passions will lead to further success no matter where you are headed. Whether your next steps involve a post-secondary program, work, or further skills training, we are confident that your zest for learning will remain. We are also confident that you will continue to give to the greater community in the same manner you have shown through your time here our local sports organizations, service clubs, and other community ventures will benefit from your involvement, no matter which community you find yourself in next.As you leave behind this familiar place, please take the time to reflect on those who have made a difference in your life throughout your time in school during these past 13 years. Strive to make that same difference to another individual, and we will know that you understand that the best way to say thanks is through your actions.
Congratulations, best wishes for your future endeavours, and please stay in touch as we look forward to hearing about what you accomplish next.

It is an honour to be chosen as the Valedictorian for the Grad Class of 2016 at Carihi. I have chosen to share this honour with Jesse Kennedy and we are both excited to represent our grad class. Having both spent time away from our school last year, coming back has given us a new appreciation for the people we have spent the last four years with. We have come to realize what a diverse and talented collective the graduating class of 2016 is and we are happy to spend our final year at Carihi. Our accomplishments and involvement in the greater community and on an international level have prepared us well for the next steps in our lives. We are both looking forward to the opportunity to speak on behalf of our grad class, and thank all of those who helped us along the way.

On behalf of all the staff of Timberline I would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to all of our graduates for reaching this important milestone. Well done grad class of 2016!
While we celebrate the collective success of this special group it is important to recognize the diversity of experiences that these graduates represent. Many have overcome significant challenges and obstacles in order to make it to this moment of celebration, students, who have persevered through loss, tragedy, sickness and difficult personal circumstances. We are impressed by your resilience and are excited to share the celebration of your graduation with you. We also have many students who have excelled and are the recipients of numerous scholarships, bursaries and awards. Many of whom have participated in clubs, sports teams, volunteers, and as active citizens both at school and in the community.
This moment has been brought about by years of effort and support, not only by teachers and support staff at all levels but by family and the larger community. We are grateful for the many ways Campbell River supports our schools and in so doing our graduates. It is our hope that our graduates will endeavour to find ways to give back to the community that has so generously supported their journey.
Our hope is that your journey through school, particularly your last three years at Timberline Secondary, will form a foundation that will allow you to successfully pursue your next adventures. Individually and collectively your future is full of possibility and we wish you every success and happiness. Congratulations from all of us at Timberline.
Dr. Jeremy MorrowPrincipal Timberline Secondary
High school can be a crazy place! Some of the best and worst days of our lives were spent in these Timberline hallways. The memories, good and bad, were made in these past four years and are ones that we will never forget. Walking to Lizs Caf every time you wanted a coffee, winning or losing a football game, celebrating every win and loss and loving every second of it is what made Timberline our school. Looking forward to the tasks ahead can seem unnerving, however, walking into Timberline for the first time back in grade 9 was pretty daunting at the time. The faces within this newspaper have proved their resilient spirit through provincial exams, block runs, dodgeball and pep rallies, so life outside of high school should be a cake walk.
Any Timberline student could tell you how amazing this school is and how amazing the people are within it. I feel honored to represent this student body with the warmth and humor so often displayed by these individuals and I look forward to reflecting back on this great time in our lives with my fellow graduates.

I encourage you to listen to the advice of those who love you the most. They are the ones who will celebrate your successes and lament your failures. They will be the ones who push you to excellence and pick you up and encourage you when you fall. They are invested in your life and in your future.
Be careful about the advice that is freely given from pundits in the media. Not that the free advice is bad; it just needs to be balanced and weighed.
Bryan Tracy, a world renowned motivational speaker says, It doesnt matter
where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going. There is some truth in this. What he means is, dont allow a bad experience or a sequence of unfortunate events debilitate you or keep you from dreaming or achieving your dreams. Good advice! However, this advice desperately needs to
be balanced because where you come from really does matter. James Baldwin, an African American author and social critic gives some countering advice. He says, Know from whence you came. If you know whence you came, there are absolutely no limitations to where you can go.
You come from Gold River (!!) a town built in the heart of Vancouver Island, home of the Mowachaht/Muchalaht people who have lived and thrived here since time immemorial. You come from a place that is central to world history. It was here, at Yuquot, that the major world powers of the 18th century collided. The Russian fur trade was moving down the coast so the Spanish rushed up from California to protect their interests in the new world. The British wanting to get a foothold on the west coast of America rushed in as well. The Americans, recently claiming independence from Britain, wanted in on the fur trade to open trading with China. It was right here that Chief Maquinna negotiated and controlled the collision of world powers. When the trade went sour they all left but the Mowachaht/Muchalaht people remained.
It was years later that a new breed of people moved to this area. These were adventurous people who worked hard to forge a living out of the rich resources of the territory. Many of the people who built this town still live here. They didnt just build a mill and a town; they built a community. They had a vision that with hard work anything is possible and they proved it. Most of us here today are here because they held true to their vision and calling. Never forget where you came from.
A second piece of free advice I want to warn you about is, Do what you love. Again there is some wisdom in this. If you are fortunate enough to find a way to make a living doing what you love to do, then fantastic. However, life isnt always about doing what you love to do. If it was, the dishes would rarely get done and as we all know, homework would never get done. A more important skill to develop is the ability not just to do what you love, but to love what you do. Learn to appreciate and work hard at whatever task comes your way. This is a rare ability, but if you can acquire it you will be content in life.
A third and final piece of free advice you need to question comes from pundits who say, Follow your dreams. It is important to dream dreams and pursue visions but remember; dreams change. If some of you followed the dreams you had when you were eight years old you would still be using Google maps to find out where Gotham city is so you could team up with Batman and Robin fighting crime. Others of you would still be kissing frogs hoping to find a prince. Fortunately dreams change. Keep dreaming.
Remember, the best dreams to pursue are not focused on the highest paying job, the nicest house, or the fastest car. They are conceived in love and compassion and achieved by hard work and sacrifice.

To the Graduates.Looking through the dictionary, I noticed that the word graduate means one who has received; by extension, someone who has received an education. Even though I believe that you are active participants in your own education, rather than just passive participants, I dont mean to quibble with the definition. In the K-12 educational system, there is truth in the idea that you receive an education.
For 13 years, you have been supported and encouraged by parents, teachers, and other adults throughout your educational journey. Graduation marks the event when we celebrate what you have received. However, as Jesus Christ stated, Freely you have received, freely give (Mt 10:8). You have received support and encouragement from your community; graduation marks the beginning of giving back to your community. For some, that means becoming productive members of the workforce. For others, it means pursuing further education. For still others, it means taking on responsibilities at home or elsewhere to allow someone else to flourish. Regardless of which path you follow, remember that a life of service will always be the basis for the joy in the journey that leads you home.

Campbell river Christian School GRAD 2016
First and foremost, I would like to state how much of an honour it is to represent my fellow graduating classmates and CRCS as a whole. Further, I would like to publically recognize the nurturing nature of the community that I have been able to be a part of. Through exceptional teaching and instruction, I have been able to grow and develop alongside many other remarkable individuals since early childhood. While any graduating student could tell you that there have been difficulties along the road in their education, I can say with confidence that I would have had far more difficulty if not for the love and support of my teachers, mentors, and role-models over the years. On another note, I am truly grateful for my classmates, whom I have been able to work with and strive alongside. Through the many ups and downs, we have survived and thrived despite challenges that may arise when placed in a tight-knit community. While it may be naive to think that we will be together forever, I know that we can take a piece of each other and our memories into the next chapter to come. By the grace of God we made it this far, and by that we shall continue out into this imposing, yet bright world. With that being said, I congratulate all the graduates of 2016, across all schools, as we enter into the next phase of our lives.

On behalf of the staff and students at Robron Centre and School District 72 I would like to congratulate the Robron Centre Graduating Class of 2016!
Learners at Robron Centre come to the centre for a variety of reasons and at various stages of their life and learning journey. Whatever the stage of life, and whatever their individual life stories, these learners have fulfilled their dreams of graduating. Robron Centre works hard to meet the needs of its students in a variety of ways. Be it through attending one of Robrons nine alternate programs, eBlend home and distance learning or Continuing Education programs; our learners have persevered and through their hard work and determination have fulfilled their dreams of graduating. This year 34 learners have realized their dream at Robron Centre. This group of graduates has ensured they and others benefitted by having a sense of belonging through the respect and caring they demonstrated to each other and other learners attending the Centre.
The graduates have worked hard to ensure they have developed academic, physical, social and spiritual mastery and have the knowledge, skills and abilities to achieve their future goals.
The graduating class has had many opportunities to develop their independence by making their own decisions and taking responsibility for their failure or success; setting goals and achieving them through self-discipline.
Finally, our graduates have demonstrated generosity by the many ways they have helped others in the community. Through this work they have developed their sense of personal worth and are able to recognize they have the wisdom and knowledge to make a difference in the world and in the lives of others.
We wish our learners all the best in their future journeys and are confident that they will succeed.

I am honoured to speak on behalf of the graduates of Robron Centre and would like to congratulate them and all the other graduates of 2016. We made it to a very important part of our lives and are ending one chapter, but it is also a beginning to a new one. A chapter where we must take what we learned and venture on through the world to chase what we believe in and are passionate about; our dreams.
Robron Centre is a place with great opportunities, not just for young students but for all age ranges. It has a variety of programs to suit everybodys needs. The goals we set for ourselves at Robron are based on the Circle of Courage Belonging, Generosity, Independence and Mastery. This helps ensure Robron is a positive environment.
I wish the best of luck to Robron and all of the grad class of 2016!
