I just got back a few weeks ago
from the marketing and leadership
conference where I won the Mer-
cedes last year.
Although I did not enter to win a car
this year, I did gain some very valu-
able knowledge and inspiration that
will help me grow my business, as
well as some great ideas to help you
in your business.
As a business owner, it is no easy task to constantly educate yourself
and your team. Most of us find it very challenging to leave the office
for a week to go on vacation, yet alone leave the office to go to a
conference.
Even though I will be overwhelmed with the daily to do’s when I get
back from these quarterly conferences, it is an amazing investment
in my business. The chance to talk about sales, marketing, operations
and leadership with my industry peers always gives me new ideas on
how to better serve you. For me, the key to these events is all about
learning and continuously improving my leadership skills so that my
team can deliver the best possible customer experience to you.
The BOOT Camp was packed full of amazing speakers and leaders.
The celebrity speaker was Lou Ferrigno (yes, the Incredible Hulk).
Other speakers included:
Tom Hopkins Nido Qubein
Patrick Houlahan Perry Marshall
Joe Polish Robin Robins
This month’s newsletter will feature some of the highlights from the
conference and give you some resources to grow your business.

Product Knowledge
Most sales people are pretty good at basic prod-
uct knowledge. They understand the features.
But they often struggle to explain the benefits or
value. How will it help the customer?
People Skills
Selling almost always boils down to the personal
relationship that you have with your customer.
As technology makes our world smaller, it is be-
coming truer that you buy from people you
“know”, “like”, and “trust”. How do you help
your client understand that you are the trusted
expert?
Sales Skills
I enjoyed this part of his presentation the best.
When I read books about selling, the sales strate-
gies always sound so canned and awkward. Then
you have to figure out a way to modify the words
so that it sounds natural. Tom had a great way
about his delivery of these strategies.

“Selling the Invisible”
If you are at all involved in selling, then the name
Tom Hopkins is well known to you. He has trained
over 4,000,000 people in selling since 1976. The
last year he sold real estate, he was closing a house
a day. Can you imagine!
I love selling. I find it very rewarding to help peo-
ple solve their problems. So, when I heard I would
have the opportunity to hear Tom Hopkins speak, I
was really happy.
When I heard that I would get to have lunch with
Tom Hopkins, I was beyond excited. I had been
reading his books since the late 80’s. It was an hon-
or to spend time with him.
Tom Hopkins talked about some great sales funda-
mentals: product knowledge, people skills, and
sales skills.

“Flawless Execution - When Failure Is Not An Option!”
Here is how he described an example debrief:
“After the mission we come inside, do our
maintenance paperwork, we talk to the control-
lers, then we go upstairs. We walk into a room
and in my particular squadron we pull our
name tags off. We have what we call a name
less, rank less debrief.
Why do we do that? We do that without fear of
reprimand, without career implications, without
intimidation. We can all learn from the mistakes
we made on that particular flight and walk out
the door a much better team. The key is con-
stant improvement every time we execute. Even
the Thunderbirds who may execute the same
flying demonstration 275 times a year, will de-
brief and improve on the 275th time.”
The debrief is something I am going to imple-
ment at EZSolution as another tool to give you
the best possible service the first time, every
time.

When you are in a Marine Corp F/A-18 Hornet
going faster than your mother ever thought safe,
there is no room for error.
With up to 8 G’s of gravitational pull pressing you
into your seat, it is hard to constantly move and keep
your eye out for bogies.
When I saw that a “Top Gun” fighter pilot was on
the list of speakers, I have to admit I was not sure
what to expect. I wasn’t sure what I would learn
from the military. Patrick Houlahan’s speech had
a profound impact on how I look at improving
EZSolution.
The most impactful topic he talked about was de-
briefing. How many times have you heard someone
on your team admit that he or she made a mistake?
Let’s face facts – most people don’t like to admit
mistakes. The problem is not that people don’t admit
mistakes…it’s that we never have a chance to learn
from experience. Performance stays flat and we
never have a chance to address the root causes of the
mistakes.
Patrick showed us a debriefing model that helps
teams to glean lessons learned and accelerate the
experience of the whole team.

I first met Nido Qubein last
April when he spoke at this same
conference.
Then last December, I was with
a small group of 25 business
owners that visited him on the
Campus of Highpoint University
in Highpoint, NC, where he is
the President.
It was on this visit that I
became totally convinced
about the power of WOW.
When I came back, I immedi-
ately set up a new company
position -- the Vice President
of WOW.
For me, WOW means that
you do everything you can to
give your customer a WOW
experience.
It has to do with not only
customer service, but it includes
every visual and non-visual
detail down to having clean
windows and how you answer
the phone.
It also has to do with getting rid
of the “unWOW’s” and irritants
that clients may face in doing
business with you. So far we
have had 15 employees serve as
the VP of WOW.
Their job is to look for things
that we could do better, things
we could improve physically and
procedurally.
We have been working through
the list and making many
improvements and changes.
At this conference, Nido talked
about why people would do
business with you.
In his presentation he asked 3
questions:
1. Why should I do business
with you?
2. How easily can someone imi-
tate what you do?
3. If I were in the marketplace
to buy what you sell, would I
buy it from you?
These were really thought-
provoking questions and I
wanted to share them with
you.
You can watch an 8 minute
video about him at
www.robinsbigseminar.com (Scroll to the bottom of the page).
I am thankful I have been
able to meet and learn from out-
standing leaders such as Nido
Qubein.

In Honor Of Mother’s Day
A mother is a person who, seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie. ~ Tenneva Jordan Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs in my field, since the payment is pure love. ~ Mildred B.
