Gender discrimination

• Problem of Gender discrimination in Pakistan• Gender Discrimination is one of the serious trouble bond

in the roots of our tragic society. Our society is unfortunately having a dilemma of Male dominance, where males are considered to have more rights than women. The issue of gender discrimination is much serious in our country as compared to others. The reason for the intensity of this cause can be related to the cultural values based in our country from a long time, due to self created culture, women in our society is limited to their daily routine work and actually no more than that they are not welcomed in political, economic or social activates with regard..

Effects• • Discrimination based on gender leads to inequality and

harassment in the workplace, schools, in the justice system and in other areas of society. Discrimination against women leads to violations of women's rights including access to reproductive health, such as birth control and secure abortions. Discrimination leads to violence against women, including sexual violence and rape, as well as economic inequality.

• Gender discrimination doesn't just hurt women. People who identify as transgender have a gender identity that does not match the gender that they were born with. Transgender people also face gender discrimination. Like women this can include a wide range of discriminatory acts, from unequal treatment and harassment in the workplace to violence and hate crimes.

Solution

• Policy solutions are ways to enforce laws and make those who commit discrimination responsible for their actions. For instance, the International Violence Against Women Act is an effort by the U.S. to deal with gender discrimination on a global scale. Lobbying, grassroots political organizing and class action lawsuits are some of the ways that groups work to change policy. When direct policy solutions are not possible, there are many other tactics that can be used to fight gender discrimination. These can include direct mass actions such as marches, rallies, pickets and civil disobedience.

• Create a state of physical equality - force both men and women to dress the same, an example would be for everyone to wear loose fitting robes, etc. Therefore eliminating the ability to discriminate based on how one looks. It would mean neither gender is allowed to use their respective bodies as means to get ahead which is a large cause for discrimination.

Also, the definition of discriminate is to recognize or perceive the difference. If we all looked the exact same there would be less difference and thus less discrimination.

• . On the whole it can be concluded that, rather than wasting any more time,, as already we are far backward than others in the fast moving world. They should value them, give them a supportive and active role in political, social and economical affairs, and remove the illogical n wrong thoughts that women to b restricted to usual work.. There is a great need for sense of equality to be developed. Our country could b benefit in real terms if the people of our country restrain from involving in such issues n believe in working practically for the welfare of nation.

Case study• A woman alleged .she was working in a building-related industry, a

co-worker abuse her, which offended her. She claimed when she lodged a complaint with the company, the co-worker refused to apologies, and afterwards the company treated her less favorably by transferring her to another work site further from her home. During the first day at the new work site, she said she was subjected to belittling and humiliating comments and behavior by co-workers which management encouraged and did nothing to stop. She left the work site and has not returned.

• The company denied that they had treated the woman less favorably because she had lodged an internal complaint of abuse, claiming she had been transferred to the new work site because of errors she had made in her work at the previous site. The company was unable to substantiate their claims of poor work performance. The co-worker who allegedly made the initial comment, admitted in the conference that he has abused her but had never intended to offend the woman.

• The matter was resolved at conciliation, by the co-worker providing the woman with a sincere and genuine apology, admitting to the behavior and acknowledging regret and remorse for his actions. The company agreed to pay the woman $2,500 for her costs to pursue the matter. The company also offered an apology for any offence taken, and a renewed offer of employment which the woman accepted.

Aging• Irreversible biological changes that occur in all living things with the

passage of time, eventually resulting in death. Although all organisms age, rates of aging vary considerably. Fruit flies, for example, are born, grow old, and die in 30 or 40 days, while field mice have a life span of about three years. Dolphins may live to age 25, elephants to age 50, and Galapagos tortoises to 100. These life spans pale in comparison to those of some species of giant sequoia trees, which live hundreds of years.

•Among humans, the effects of aging vary from one individual to another. The average life expectancy for Americans is around 75 years, almost twice what it was in the early 1900s. Although some people never reach this age, and others are beset with illnesses if they do, more and more people are living healthy lives well into their 90s and older. The study of the different aging processes that occur among individuals and the factors that cause these changes is known as gerontology. Geriatrics is a medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases in the elderly.

• there are many anti-aging skin care products that can vanish the signs of aging, at least temporarily.

• Having a positive attitude about life is one of the best anti aging solutions that in general will also reduce the risk of heart disease, so try and take the ups and downs of life in your stride and slow down aging that way.

• Don’t let yourself lose interest in the latest trends just because you’re no longer in your twenties. Keep in touch with young people and what they are interested in.

CASE STUDY

• Ms. Marvi was a well known model of Pakistan a few years ago. She won the contest of miss world. She endorsed many brands at her time and every marketer wanted ms. Marvi to endorse their brands. She was one of the top earning models of her time and also worked in some international movies as a lead actor. She had a huge fan list and her fans used to wait outside her house for hours to see her going out of there. Ms. Marvi was really enjoying her status but she was also worried, she was very concerned about her age. She knew that all she had, sooner or later will be snatched from her by some other model one day. The reason of tension for growing age was, that the business she was working in, demanded two qualities, one was beauty and the other was young age. She was completely aware that her beauty would decline as her age was growing.

Page 17: Sociology Ppt

• The same thing happened after some period. Now ms. Marvi was turning old, her age was 35 years. She lost a major portion of endorsements and her fan list also declined. She was working very hard in her field to maintain her status but now it was impossible for her to get that status back. She was replaced by some other model and the new model was enjoying the position which once was ruled by ms. Marvi.

• Ms. Marvi tried many surgeries and latest makeup but nothing proved beneficial to make her look younger.

• Now as she cannot do modeling, ms. Marvi is working as a dress designer and misses her old days of modeling.
