When Can we Go to Mass Again?
This is the question we are all asking, and as of this letter I do not have the answer.
Ultimately, the Governor and our Bishop will provide our churches with some dates and
guidelines. One thing I do know, however, is that when our parish reopens for public Mass,
it will be different then we are accustomed to. For example, social distancing guidelines will
be enforced (less people will be allowed in church) and the elderly and those whose
health could be placed at risk are certainly excused. We will continue to live stream our
Masses. As I announced last week, Volun-teers will be needed when we re-open for
public Masses. In Phase 1 of reopening, gatherings in our churches will be limited to
no more than 25% of the capacity of the church building. Thus, more ushers will be
needed assist with proper seating and volunteers will be needed to help clean after
every Mass. If you are in good health and want to assist us as we prepare, God willing,
to open again, please call the parish and leave a message at the front desk, or email the
parish at [email protected].
Together we pray that this virus can soon be contained and controlled. Please continue to
follow health and safety instructions to keep your family and community safe.
Ascension of the Lord
For this year only, the celebration of the Solemnity of the Ascension of our Lord,
usually celebrated on a Thursday, will be moved to the following Sunday. This decision
was made by the Bishops of New Jersey. Thus, the Ascension this year will be
celebrated on Sunday, May 24. Our Parish will Live Stream Masses as we have been
doing.
Stay Healthy and God Bless you and your
family, Fr. Vince

Stewardship Reflection:
Stewardship Goodness
“For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be God’s will, than for doing evil.” 1 PETER 3:17 The old line says, “If you want to make God laugh,
tell him your plans.” Many Stewards are diligent in our planning and making sure things are
progressing smoothly. Then disaster strikes and we
don’t get the result that was intended or an
unforeseen problem arises. Many times, we may
respond negatively and ask, “Why me? I did everything right!” Here’s the thing – adversity
humbles us and reminds us of our dependence on
God and not on our own self-reliance. Rest
assured, God has a better plan in store for you.

Light of Belief:
Every believer in this world must become a spark of
light.
—Pope Saint John XXIII
Saint Rita of Cascia, May 22:
(1381-1457)
If you’re ever in Philadelphia on May 22, forget parking
anywhere near Saint Rita’s shrine. Cars line streets
and fill medians as throngs pack a candlelight vigil and six Masses, honoring this patroness of lost causes,
hopeless situations, and—as her statue in countless
churches built by twentieth-century immigrants
testifies—difficult marriages, troubled homes, and
alienated children. Wise people warn, be careful what you pray for. “Divine Savior,” Rita prayed, “let me suffer
like you!” Obedient to parents who refused her wish to
become a nun, Rita married a man who returned her
devotion with twenty years of abuse. When enemies
murdered him, Rita’s two sons swore revenge.
Paintings depict her pointing the angry boys toward Christ crucified, whom she begged to restrain them.
Within the year, both sons died. Alone now, Rita went
to the convent but was refused. The nuns feared
violence, since one of them was related to the
murderer. Rita arranged peace between the families, made vows, and became much sought after as a
counselor and intercessor for forty years on earth—and
ever since in heaven.

Prayer for Priestly Vocations:
Lord Jesus, we ask you to bless the Diocese of Camden with an increase in vocations to the priesthood.
We pray that young men from our parishes and
families will hear your call and be both generous and
courageous in their response. May more young men
serve you as priests who teach the faith, preach the
Gospel, celebrate the sacraments and make you present among us through their ministry. Encourage
them to embrace the joy-filled and fulfilling life of a
diocesan priest. May parents support priestly vocations
in their families by prayer and good example. We
entrust these prayers through Mary Immaculate, our patroness, hopeful that you will bless our diocese with
more priest in the near future, who live and reign
forever and ever. AMEN.
