OVERWHELMED BY DIGITAL CHOICES?
Where and how you spend your marketing dollars matters; but how do you decide where to use those dollars with so many digital choices? Google, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, Bing - just to name a few of the many digital spaces you can advertise on.
Although we could break each of these networks down and discuss the pros and cons of advertising on each one of them - for the purpose of keeping this guide simple and straightforward - I am going to address the two biggest players on the digital market - Google and Facebook.

GOOGLE vs. FACEBOOK
Well, it depends… there are a lot of factors used to determine that.
However, I am going to break down some factors you want to take into consideration when deciding.
So, let’s talk about the differences between these two digital advertising giants.
Should I Advertise on
Google or
Facebook?

WHAT IS GOOGLE ADWORDSand who should use it?First of all, let’s start out by saying, when choosing which search engine you want to advertise with, Google is King.
In fact, a recent report from the web statistics tracker, NetMarketShare, recently released the global breakdown of search engines. Google was used 80% of the time across desktop and mobile devices. Bing ranked 5%, Yahoo 3%, and it just continues to drop from there for other search engines.

Google handles more than 40,000 search queries every second, totaling more than 1.2 trillion web searches every single year.
Not only that, Google is the default search engine for Android and iOS phones. Why does that matter? Because 57% of all U.S. Online traffic is generated through mobile phones.
Now that we’ve cleared up why we use Google as the primary search engine to advertise on, let’s discuss what it does.
AdWords is the name of the online advertising program that broadcasts different kinds of ads across the Google
network. It is the world’s largest, most popular PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising platform. Advertisers bid on keywords so that their ads will display alongside search queries. For example, if some-one searches for your ad campaign’s keyword plumber, your company’s advertisement could populate along-side one of Google’s search results.
Obviously, there are way more technicalities involved, but I am not going to dive into how bidding and PPC work in this article. Visit our additional marketing articles at JKPremierMarketing.com for more information on this topic.

When you advertise on Google, you are advertising to active consumers. If someone is using Google, they are actively looking for a product, service, or more information about both - and you could be their answer! These consumers are usually ready to engage, buy, or hire.
Think about how you use the search engine: If you have 50 employees working in a 90-degree office building because the air condition went out, and your air condition guy can’t come for two days, you’re going to use Google to find a repairman who can come today.
Service industries do really well on Google because of this.

SO WHAT IS FACEBOOK
GOOD FOR?
Facebook ads are paid social, and Facebook has by far the highest number of monthly active users (or MAUs) in regards to any social net-work in the world. Unlike Google where ads populate based on a user’s keywords or search terms, Facebook determines if your ad will show based on the user’s interests and online behavior.
The advantage Facebook has over Google is, for the moment, your ads can get a lot more engagement and exposure for a much smaller budget. Facebook is a great way to get your brand out there for companies with smaller marketing budgets.

Keep in mind that people treat Face-book like they do TV; they are bored waiting in a line somewhere, chilling on the couch, checking-in on someone, or they want to be entertained. Basically, people are scrolling through Facebook to waste time, debate, compare their lives to others, and watch cat videos.
Think of Facebook as basically an interactive billboard. If an ad catches your attention, you have the option to click on it and engage with the business directly.

Also like TV, Facebook is extremely visual. This means your ad will need to visually compete with all the other images or videos scrolling past the user to grab their attention.
The strongest factor Facebook has in its favor is the fact it can do the same brand awareness type campaigns that TV, radio, and print ads can do, for significantly less money.
Not only that, but because it is digital, it can be specific to your audience. If you pay for a radio ad, you have no idea who is listening. You could be a BMW Car Dealership paying for a three-year-old to hear your ad; whereas with Facebook Ads, your money is much more precise. We can tell Facebook to only allow people who make an income of $150,000+ a year who live within 7 miles of your dealership to see your ad.
Does that make sense? You can actually be very specific about who you are advertising to and spending money on.

WHICH ONE DO YOU
CHOOSE?
Besides the factors I just discussed, as a marketer, I also take into consideration: your industry, if you have an online store, if you can ship products, who your ideal customer is (age, gender, income, etc.), and the biggest factor… your budget.
There are times when a company’s budget can limit where we advertise. Sometimes your competitor has dominated one of the platforms, driving your bids too high for a good ROI.
There are also situations where we recom-mend breaking out different products or services in your company and advertising on both Google and Facebook.
