Thanks, Neighbors!
Dear Neighbors,
I'd like to take this chance to thank all of the volunteers who
have come forward in recent weeks. Our Beautification Committee got
to work selecting the winner of our Halloween decor contest, and
will be working with OKC Beautiful on further improvements for
Swatek Park. When spring rolls around, they will also be
resurrecting the Yard of the Month Award!
In addition, the Welcome Committee has been compiling a list of new
residents. If there's a new neighbor on your street, please notify
the Welcome Committee Chair, John Riesenberg, at
[email protected].
We now have a nearly-full roster of block captains, with only 27th
and 29th streets needing volunteers to hand out the Flock Flyer and
keep an eye on their street's activities and needs. Please let me
know if you live on 27th or 29th and are interested in one of these
positions.
In other exciting news, Shepherd Historic District Neighborhood
Association is holding a Christmas Party at Rococo on Penn on
Tuesday, December 8th at 7 PM. The party will include hors
d'oeuvres and a cash bar. In addition, you'll be the first to be
able to purchase the official Shepherd Historic District
t-shirt!
Hope to see you all there!
Sincerely, Grant Wilson

Holiday Decorating Contest
This month we would like to thank our neighbour on 25th, Mary
Kirtley, for her submission to "Shepherd Remembered". Mary emailed
us the photo featured on the right.
This handsome hamburger joint once stood at the corner of 13th and
Broadway in OKC. The owners, Kathryn and Walter Cherry were long
time Shepherd residents, being the first to occupy the house at
2140 NW 25th, which is now owned by Mary Kirtley but is currently
up for sale.
Walter and Kathryn opened the restaurant just after Walter re-
turned home from serving in WWII. They later went on to open 5
other locations throughout the city. This photo was taken sometime
around 1949. At this time you could come to Cherry's and get root
beer for a nickel or a malt for just ten cents.
If you or your family have lived in Shepherd for a long time and
have interesting information, stories, or photos of Shep- herd, we
want to hear from you! Please email
[email protected] with
any information!

We reported in September’s Flock Flyer about a lovely bronze
sculpture that has been donated to our neighborhood, entitled “The
Wind” by Paul Baliker. The Shepherd and Sequoyah Neighborhood
Associations are working together to raise the funds needed for its
installation. While we are applying for grant monies, a portion of
the installation will still need to be raised by our neighborhoods.
With the end of the year approaching, we know many of you are
thinking of charitable giving and the best way to maximize your
allowable tax deduction. We hope you would consider donating to
this project and making a lasting contribution to the beauty of our
neighborhood. If you are interested in making a totally tax
deductible donation, please use the form located on the last page
of this flyer. This form can also be found on the front page of
www.ShepherdHistoric.com. We thank you in advance for your
support!
If you would like more information on the art project, please email
either Laura vander Windt at
[email protected] or Craig Walker at

support!

Historic Building Threatened Villa Teresa, located in Midtown near
13th and Classen, is under threat of being razed to make room for
new construction. Villa Teresa operated as Catholic School from
1933-2012, when it closed it's doors. It is now under contract from
Tulsa real estate in- vestors, Elliot Nelson and Casey Stowe, who
will not rule out the possibility that the historic building may be
demolished. If you'd like to help save Villa Teresa, please email
Elliot Nelson and let him know that you do not want to see Villa
Teresa torn down and you'd prefer the historic site to be renovated
and made to serve a new purpose. Elliot's email address is
[email protected]. Keep a look out in The Oklahoman for follow
ups on this developing story.

October!
We are so happy to have you here! Once you're all settled in,
please go to NextDoor.com to join our online community!
Q: Whats something you're passionate about? A: I love the outdoors
and our National Parks. We are coming up on the 100th year
anniversary of our National Park system in 2016 and it’s a great
opportunity to get out to one!
Q: Cat person? Dog person? Both? A: Dog person, but let’s keep that
argument off Next Door. Look out for our Goldendoodle puppy, Rigby,
around the neighborhood!
Q: Favorite vacation you've ever taken? A: We recently made a trip
out west where we backpacked from San Francisco up to Seattle with
stops in Napa, Redwoods Na- tional Park, and Portland along the
way.
Q: If you could have dinner with any one, alive or dead, who would
it be and why? A: Blake Trippet. That guy’s amazing!!!
Q: If you had friends coming to OKC for the first time, what would
you take them to do? A: I recently had a friend from Salt Lake in
town and we did everything from an OU football game to the
Sandridge Sky Trail and even made a late night trip to Bobo’s
Chicken!
We would also like to thank Blake Trippet for nominating Josh to be
interviewed. Want to be interviewed, or suggest someone to be
interviewed? Email
[email protected]. Interviews are easy and
are can be conducted entirely via email!
Please call/text Gary at 405.694.8562 or email
