The CourseThe MSc (Eng) consists o:

Nine modules of which eight need to be completed

Written assignments for each module

A three-hour written exam

A dissertation of 10,000 – 15,000words on an industry-focused project

 A Diploma is awarded or satisactory completion o eight modulesand their assignments and a three-hour written exam.

 At the end o the programme, students will ully understand the

Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

Failure Mode Efects Analysis (FMEA)

Sources of chemicalhazards and their i mpact

Safe approaches to design and operation

The role of human error and behaviour

Regulatory framework for major hazards (COMAH)

Safety Management Systems (SMS)

Safety implications of computer-controlled plants

This will enable the student to build on their, already impressive, technical skills and enhance their uture career prospects.

Course StructureThe Masters degree programme can be studied over two yearspart-time or one year ull time and requires completion o eightour-day modules, assignments and a dissertation.

Thedissertationwillbe basedonaprojectortopicthatis odirectindustrialconcern. Theproject anddissertation area substantialelementotheMastersdegreeprogrammeandare worth60credits.

Each module may also be taken individually as a short course.

Entry RequirementsMasters A candidate or the Masters degree must be: A recognised graduate and have attained a standard at leastequivalent to that o a good honours degree in a technological

or scientic subject;or Deemed qualied as a result o wide work experience.

Diploma  A candidate who does not have the above qualications may stillqualiy or the Postgraduate Diploma. Please contact the CourseDirector to discuss this option.

Transfer from the Diploma to the MastersTranser to the Masters course is possible or those who havesuccessully completed 60 credits and who have receivedpermission o the Faculty Board.

Fees and Funding Details o the current ees are available rom the Course Director.Funding may be available rom EPSRC or suitably qualied ull-timeUK students, and partial unding may be available rom the Royal Academy o Engineering Panasonic Trust or some suitably qualiedpart-time students.
