A strain gauge is mounted to the inside of a stainless steel housing Higher water level means more pressure on the housing, leading to elongation of the strain gauge The resulting change in electric resistance is translated into the water level information For calibration, a defined pressure is applied to the transducer

A packet of microwave pulses are transmitted by the antenna system This pulse is reflected by the water and received by the same antenna system The running time of the RADAR pulse from emission to reception is proportional to the distance to the water surface. „Distance to water surface“ is translated into the level information.
