The embellished Right Front Skirt lieson top of the Contrast Left Front Skirt. On the sample shown, the selvedgeedge of the linen was used alongthe front vertical edge of the RightFront Skirt piece for added design
interest. If you would like to do this, keep in mind that when you cut outyour fabric, you will align the selvedgeedge with the fold line marked on thepattern piece. For a hemmed finishededge, cut the fabric as shown on thepattern piece.
If your Contrast fabric is sheer (as it ison the sample skirt) you will overlay iton your Main fabric, which will be anunderlining. Cut Left Front Skirt piece
out of your Contrast fabric and cut Left Front Skirt piece out of your Mainfabric. If your Contrast fabric is opaque,no underlining is necessary.
The topstitching on the sample isstitched with a coordinating threadthat is a slightly lighter color than theMain fabric color so that the stitchingis more obvious. If you would like thestitching to blend in, use a matchingthread. With coordinating thread, whether it is lighter or darker, thestitching will be more visible thanmatching thread would be, whichmeans you need to sew carefully tokeep the stitches even and maintaina consistent distance from the seamline or edge.
It is important to use beading threadto sew beads onto garments becausebeading thread is made from strong, smooth 00% continuous-filamentnylon that is specially treated to resistabrasion and tangling. Also, it pullsthrough fabric effortlessly. If you useconventional sewing thread to sewbeads onto fabric, over time the fibersof the thread will be worn thin by thebeads, and the beads have a greaterchance of falling off.
cut the Fabric
1 Assemble the full-size pattern. Cutthe following pattern pieces, referringto the cutting layout for assistance.Transfer all pattern markings to thewrong side of the fabric except for themarkings for the button and buttonhole, which should be transferred to theright side of the fabric. If it is difficultto discern the wrong side of the fabric, use a piece of tape to mark your wrongsides to keep all the pieces the same.

Fold the skirt hem (.cm) toward the wrong side and press.Fold the hem over another (2.5 cm)and press. To finish each of the bottomcorners of the two vertical front edges ofthe skirt, miter the corners by unfoldingthe last fold you made, then take thebottom corner and fold it to meet thecrease, making a 45-degree angle
(figure 1). Finger press the angled edge, then refold the hem. Pin the hem inplace at the mitered corners, matchingthe side seams and the center back.Gently pull the basting stitches to easein the excess fabric. Topstitch the hemin place, (2 cm) from the bottomedge of the skirt. By hand, slip-stitch themitered corners closed (figure 1).
add the eMbelliShMeNtSt Fuse one side of the double-stickfusible web to the wrong side of thesquare of appliqu fabric, following the
manufacturers instructions. Positionthe appliqu as desired. On the sampleskirt, the appliqu is located about 2 (5cm) from the front vertical edge and 6(5 cm) below the waistline seam (referto the photo on page 0). Fuse in place.By machine, use matching thread to

sew a satin stitch, zigzag stitch, or otherdecorative stitch around the perimeterof the appliqu. A satin stitch was usedon the sample skirt.
y Trace the embroidery templateusing dressmakers carbon paperand a tracing wheel or an erasablefabric marker (to use a fabric marker, trace the design, using a light tableor bright window if necessary). For acustom look, freehand draw your ownembroidery design line.
u Thread your embroidery needle with
all the strands of your embroidery flosstogether or use pearl cotton and thenchain-stitch along the transferred ordrawn line. (see Sewing Basics)
i Use the beading needle and beadingthread to sew on the beads, stitchingthrough each bead twice to secure itto the fabric. Arrange the beads asdesired, or in a loose circular patternat the interior point of the embroideredline (refer to the photo on page 0to see the arrangement used on thesample).
