THE VISION
Setting goals is based on motivation.
There are different reasons that motivate you to act in some way or
another, having a unique system of values and beliefs that defines you.
The first step before writing down your goals is to discover who you
are and why you wish for all those results.
Defining a vision is important for knowing the place you’re heading to
and to set goals which correspond best to your personal WHY.
And here comes the first perspective of goals

STATEMENT
You’ve certainly heard about the SMART Goals.
This type of goals is so widespread because it actually works in the personal
life as long as in your professional one.
Setting SMART goals makes it easier to know exactly where you’re going
and how much time it will take you.
Also, you’ll be able to measure your progress.
Specific you have all the information needed
Measurable a measuring scale of your progress in quality and quantity
Achievable you already have or will get all the resources needed
Relevant it truly matters to you and it corresponds to your vision
Time-bound there is a deadline for its accomplishment

ACTION PLAN
As goals don’t achieve
themselves all alone, the next
step is creating a concrete
action plan.

Bil Keane says the present is a gift, that’s why it is called present.
We are usually tempted to focus on the final result instead of taking advantage of the present and learning at least one new thing every day. We forget to celebrate little victories, only dreaming out the big fish at the end.

GOALS WITH SOUL
The last and most profound approach is Goals With Soul,
adapted from the work of Danielle LaPorte:
It isn’t about the goal, but how you want to feel.
Do something every day that gives you that feeling.
Now that you’ve got the tangible elements of your goals system,
you get to fulfilling your feelings and emotional states.
Simply knowing your desire won’t be enough as long as you
cannot identify the feeling you’re searching for.

PARADOX OF GOALS
Joseph Liu is a change process specialist especially regarding a
new career path.
He speaks about the goals paradox – goals provide our lives
with intention, direction and purpose, but they are incredibly
limiting because they care prevent us from being open to new
ideas or interest.
Ambitious ones will do anything to reach their goal, but it’s
worth paying attention to new other opportunities along the way.
