All That
“She thinks she’s all that.” James’ daughter Jan said as she talked about why she didn’t feel comfortable around a girl at work. “All that?” James asked. It means she things she’s better than anyone else. (Luke 14:11) I just avoid her. What’s so bad about being proud of one’s own status they have achieved. Undue confidence in and attention to one’s own skills, possessions, state or position. Pride is easier to recognize than to define, easier to recognize in others than to oneself. Many Bib-lical words describe this concept, each with its own emphasis. Some of the synonyms for pride include arrogance, presumption, conceit, self-satisfaction, boasting and high-mindedness. It is the opposite of humility, the proper attitude one should have in relation to God. Pride is rebellion against God because it attributes to oneself the honor and glory due to God. Proud people do not think it necessary to ask forgiveness because they do not admit their sinful condition. This attitude toward God found in one’s attitude toward others, often causing people to have a low estimate of the ability and worth of others. Boasting can be committed only in the presence of other people (1 John 2:16, James 4:16) Haughtiness or arrogance measures oneself above others. (Mark 7:23, Luke 1:51, Romans 1:30, 2 Timothy 3:2, James 4:6, 1 Peter 5:5) This word refers primarily to the attitude of one’s heart. (1 Timothy 3:6,6:4, 2 Timothy 3:4) It emphasizes the plight of the one who has been blinded by personal pride. The Pharisee and those guilty of spiritual pride, the ones who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else. (Luke 18:9). So is she all that?

Dare to be Different
I remember a book we used in 4-H some years ago titled, “Dare to be Different.” What a challenge this is to Christians today. Dare to speak out for the Lord; dare to do what is right when society says sin is okay; dare to grow in knowledge of God’s Word – and live by it; dare to invite others to attend worship; dare to care about others and about the church of Jesus Christ. One thing is sure, we can’t live like the world and make it to heaven. The world travels the wide road, but it’s the wrong road (Matthew 7:13,14). Dare to be different! John K. Wills, Owingsville, KY
Remember In Prayer
Brad Kimes continues to get better everyday, he remains in the rehabilitation center and will hopefully be home soon. Brad and Kristy want to thank everyone for their love, prayers and support and they miss all of you very much. Katie Morlan is in Camden Clark Hospital undergoing treat-ment for an infection. She is in room 514 North. Cheryl Ullom had carpal tunnel surgery last week. Todd Egnor, son of Richard Egnor, suffered a heart attack and had surgery to have stents inserted. He is in Williams-burg, Virginia. Jim Goontz, father of Debbie Lane, is now home under Hos-pice care. Troy Manuel, friend of Mark & Carolyn Shockey, has been diagnosed with stage four cancer.
