If any burner fails to ignite, turn the control knob off (clockwise) and also turn thecylinder valve off. Wait
attempting to relight.

Flammable materials of any description MUST be kept well away from the barbeque.The gas cylinder must be kept out of direct sunlight and away from any heat sources.Inspect the gas hose to ensure it is free of any twisting or tension. The hose should hang freely with no bends, folds, or kinks that could obstruct the free of gas. Apart from the connection point, no part of the hose should touch any hot BBQ parts.
Always inspect the hose for cuts, cracks, or excessive wear before use. If the hose is damaged, it must be replaced with a hose suitable for use with LPG and which meets the national standards for the country of use (South Africa: SANS 1156-2 or BS3212). The length of the hose shall not exceed 1,5m.
CONNECTING THE GAS HOSE TO THE BRAAI
Connect the gas hose to the gas manifold inlet on the BBQ.Do not overtighten. Do not use any sealing tape or sealing liquid on the connection. Reminder to do a leak test (See pg7.)
GAS CYLINDER
A 9kg ALVA gas cylinder with a 5/8 inch BSP left hand thread is recommended. This will match the supplied regulator. Cylinders must be stored in an upright position, in a well ventilated and damp free area and out of reach of children.The cylinder must never be stored where temperatures can reach or exceed ��·&� Do not store the cylinder near open pilot lights or any other sources of ignition. DO NOT SMOKE WHILE HANDLING THE CYLINDER.
FITTING THE GAS CYLINDER TO THE APPLIANCE
This appliance is only suitable for use with LPG. This appliance is with a 2.8kPa low pressure regulator.BEFORE USE PLEASE CHECK FOR LEAKSNever check for leaks with a naked always use a soapy water solution.
�� For cart models, do not attempt to connect to a gas cylinder before the BBQ is secured properly into its cart.
�� Check that all the control knobs (including side burner) are in the OFF position before any attempt is made to connect the regulator to the gas cylinder.

Consult your gas or barbecue supplier for advice. 4. Flame Thrower Ignition: This ignition system works by throw-
ing a to the side of the burner to light it. Push the knob in and turn anticlockwise to the HIGH position. Hold the knob in until the burner ignites. You may need to push and turn the knob several times before ignition.
5. If the burner light go, return the knob to the OFF position and try a couple more times. If the burner still does not light, wait a few minutes to allow the gas to disperse before trying again.
If satisfactory operation cannot be achieved check the trou-bleshooting guide on page 17. Otherwise, consult your retailer before proceeding.
MANUAL IGNITION

COVERED COOKING
COOKING WITH THE HOOD CLOSEDUsing the roasting hood traps heat, moisture and thatis normally lost on an open top braai. The Alva Mondo range isdesigned with plenty of power to heat up quickly and cook lots offood with the hood either open or closed. With the hood closedand the braai already pre-heated, its important to then turn burn-ers to LOW and to OFF as required, in order to not overheat thebraai which could result in increased temperature hazards andburning your food.
For covered cooking, there are two basic ways to cook:(A) Direct Cooking and (B) Indirect Cooking
(A) COVERED COOKING-DIRECT COOKING METHODThis is when you place the food directly over the lit burners.
This method is great for frying, searing and grilling, especially with thinner cuts and foods that require shorter cooking time. Cooking takes less time than with the hood open, and the resultsare more tender and juicy. Preheat the braai with both burners on HIGH and the hood closed until the hood thermometer reads around 200ºC. Importantly, once the braai is pre-heated and the hood is closed,heat is trapped around the food, so the burners will only need tobe on LOW and in many cases, one of the burners OFF. Heat from the lit burner(s) will circulate all through the hood cooking quite evenly. Very fatty foods like sausages, can be cooked completely above the OFF burners, retaining juiciness and without risk of that results only in burning. Close attention needs to be paid to the food, and the burners frequently reset to LOW or OFF as required to prevent over-heating.

Although an obstructed burner tube is not the only cause of FLASH-BACK it is the most common cause and frequent inspection and cleaning of the burner tubes isnecessary.
To reduce the chance of FLASH-BACK ,the procedure listed should be followed at least once a month in late summer or early autumn when spiders are most active, or when your braai has not been used for an extended period of time.
THE COOKING SURFACE:Once cooking is a burn-off process to clean the braai should be as follows:
Remove all excess burnt food with a long handled scraper or brush.Light both burners, set to the HIGH position and leave
running with the hood fully open for approximately 5 mins.During this 5 minute period most excess food, fat and juices should be burnt off making cleaning easier.The roasting hood must be left in the open position during the burn off period.Turn the braai OFF at the control knobs and at the gas supply valve. Using ALVA's Food Safe Cleaner and warm water, scrub the cooking surfaces with a long handled brush or scourer. Rinse thoroughly with fresh warm water.Once dry, store braai with the hood closed and out of the elements and direct sunlight.

As with all appliances, proper care and maintenance will keep them in top operating condition and prolong their life. Your new gas braai is no exception. By following these cleaning proce-dures on a regular basis, your braai will remain clean and in good working order with the minimum of effort.
BEWARE OF SPIDERS AND WASPS. BURNER TUBES SHOULD BE INSPECTED AND CLEANED PERIODICALLY!
Spiders and small insects occasionally spin webs or make nests in the burner tubes during warehousing and transit. These webs can lead to a gas obstruction which could result in a in and around the burner tubes.
THE BRAAI FIREBOX AND HOOD:Regular care and maintenance of the braai and hoodwill increase its life and long term appearance.Excess grease and fat can be removed using ALVA foodsafe braai cleaner and warm water with a soft scraper (notmetal edged). Do not use caustic cleaning agents as thesecan quickly damage surface coatings and gradually damageeven metalBefore cleaning the inside of the body it is advisable to cool,then remove the cooking surfaces and be careful not to getwater into the burner holes.Care must be taken not to immerse the gas controls(manifold and injectors) in water.After cleaning and re-assembling the braai it is important tocheck that the braai functions correctly.
THE DRIP TRAY:You should change the fat absorbent material regularlyand keep the drip tray itself clean to prevent a build up ofgrease. If you do this, a fat can result. This can bequite dangerous, and will certainly void the warranty on yourbraai.A good tip is to line the bottom of the drip tray with a layer ofFat Absorba (available from ALVA).Clean the drip tray after every use.
OTHER SURFACES:Once braai has cooled, wipe down as required with warmsoapy water.Your ALVA Mondo is a cast aluminium braai. This is far moreweather resistant than traditional braais, but will still needto be cared for and kept clean. Proper care will ensure thebraai is hygenic and will prolong the life of the braai.

THE BURNERS:Occasionally the burner holes may get slightly clogged with grease and food particles. Leaving the burners on HIGH for a maximum of 5 minutes with the hood open after
cooking will remove most of this.Check the burners periodically for more persistent block-ages. In particular, you should ensure that the aeration ventsare free of insect nests and spider webs.To clean the burners, once OFF, let them cool down and in-spect them. If any of the holes are clogged, use a toothpick to unclog the holes.

THE GAS CYLINDER SHOULD BE DISCONNECTED AND STORED OUTDOORS OR IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA.
When using the braai after extended periods of storage, pleasetake note once again of the care, maintenance and safety instructions.
�� If�your�braai�uses�a� �hose�to�connect�to�the�gas,�check�the�rubber�O-ring�on�the�regulator�end�of�the�hose�assembly�at�least�once�a�year.�If�it�appears�worn�or�cracked,�have�it�replaced.
�� We�recommend�having�your�braai�checked�by�an�authorised�service�agent�every�5�years.�This�is�to�ensure�there�are�no�leaks�and�that�all�components�are�still�functioning�correctly.
�� If�you�use�a�portable�LPG�gas�cylinder,�you�will�need�to�have�the�cylinder�serviced�or�replaced�every�ten�years.�The�date�of�the�last�service�should�be�stamped�on�the�neck�of�the�bottle.
�� Occasionally�you�will�need�to�remove�your�burners�for�cleaning�or�adjustment.�To�remove�the�burner,�remove�the�two�screws�holding�them�in�place,�then�pull�the�open�end�of�the�burner�away�from�the�gas�jet�at�the�front�of�the�braai.�Reverse�this�procedure�to�reinstall�the�burners�making�sure�the�burner�venturi� �properly�over�the�gas�injector.

SERVICING YOUR BRAAI
Apart�from�cleaning,�your�braai�is�a�fairly�low�maintenance�item.A�couple�of�things�are�worth�looking�at�though.�Remember�to�turn�OFF,�cool�the�braai�down�and�disconnect�the�gas�before�anymaintenance�is�carried�out.�� If�there�are�any�signs�of�wear�or�cracking�in�the�braai�hose,
